okay all i have a quick question, should i use the sqwd on my closed loop, or should i just go straight flow to the two inlets, im gonna use a mag 9.5 on the 58, you think constant or switching water flow is best!!! gonna have alot of sps and some fish!! any recommendation are appriciated!!!

sqwd on your closed loop. The more variation in your waterflow the better.

I agree man. The sqwd would be best. you should add some sea swirls too!!

I like mine so far but a new fat clown I just picked up doesn't yet. He has to actually swim with the current change.

I Need Help Fast, okay guys, i finished off my tank today(plumbing, hoses, sqwd etc.) so i decided to test it out for leaks, so i filled up tank and the turned on the mag 9.5, i noticed that there was not alot of water flow, seemed weak, remember i have a closed loop with a 3/4 inch drain that goes into a sqwd and then is separated to 2 holes on the top 1/2 inch bulkheads, there i have a lock line with a y splitter in the tank, so i have 4 total heads in the tank, my question is, if i take the sqwd off and run it straight through with the two bulkheads and keep the 4 inserts, will it increase flow or will it be the same, i noticed when the sqwd was in action, that when it was blowing water out one side it was still blowing alittle water on the other side still???? pls let me know what you think!!!oh and the mag 9.5 is level with my tank as well!!!! i was thinking of adding 2 mag7's, 1 to each inlet and maybe that'll be more flow, but i hate to drill 2 more holes in my tank, let me know what you think!!!!!urrrggggggggg hate patients

If you take off the sqwd you will have more flow, but no switching current. Its really up to you on what you like best. Or you could always get a bigger pump.lol

Since I have never used one, I just going on what I have seen and what others have posted on here. Here is a link to other post discussing the sqwd (http://www.maast.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=1909url) I'm assuming that your are losing about 100-150gph. Is it switching pretty fast, about every 3-4 seconds?

What size tubing are you using? Is it 1/2", 3/4"? Are there any kinks in the hoses? The size of the tubing will also affect the amt of flow.

no kinks at all, im using all 3/4 inch hosing!!!! i just hope that elimating the sqwd ill get more flow, makes sense to me!! I HOPE!!!!

I have two closed loop systems using SQWDs. One is powered by a Mag 18 and the other is powered by a Mag 24. They work great! Switches about every 5 to 6 seconds. Both pumps are on the floor behind the tank. Intakes are in the tank then go to the pumps on the floor then out lets go about 2 feet into the SQWDs and then to the outlet tubes on the corners of the tank.

They are supposed to have water coming out both sides all the time. A little from the side that is "off" is correct. A mag 9.5 with multiple returns like you describe will have a fairly low volume, and not much velocity. You will have to restrict the nozzel of the bulkhead returns to get velocity. Personally I would get a larger pump and keep the SQWD. If you decide you don't want the SQWD, I need at least one and will buy it from you.
