we just got back from Sea World, had a blast! I now appreciate standing in long lines to look at corals and fish :-D Anyway, I fell in love with the pink flower anenome. Does anyone know much about them?

Reeftopia carries a green and a red/orange flower anemone. I think they are also known as rock anemones. Jim Norris has one and on the last Reeftopia order I did Ray (Triggerman) got 4 of them. They are pretty cool looking. The one Jim has used to belong to Vinh and I think he said they will eat a small fish if it gets too close to it though!

Amity, Here you go....
The Flower Anemone, also known as the Rock Anemone, is a member of the Phymanthidae family. Originating from the Caribbean, these anemones are found in a wide array of colors, with the oral disc often being a different color than the rest of the anemone. The oral disc lacks tentacles, and the tentacles are often beaded in appearance.
The Flower Anemone can live singly or in groups. They prefer to live on shaded, vertical rock walls, or within the substrate. They will bury most of their body in the sand, with only the oral disc and tentacles showing. These are fairly hardy anemones that will adapt to a wide variety of lighting conditions. These anemones tend not to wander about the aquarium and are a great addition to a reef aquarium.
The Flower Anemone is a carnivore, and requires meaty foods to survive. Offer mussels and freshly chopped fish meat, as well as high quality frozen foods. Adding iodine and trace elements to the aquarium will help the Flower Anemone thrive.

I think these are one of the hardiest anemones. I have three of them and they have survived several moves over the years. I don't feed mine anything directly. They do fine with the left over brine shrimp and other foods they filter from the water.

Thanks for the info!! They had so many of them at Sea World but all of thiers were almost like a hot pink color. They were very bright and vibrant looking. Maybe that picture from etropicals doesnt represent them very well?! Its good to hear that they are hardy because I want one soon!! :P

I have kept 3 flower anemone so far. Two of them stay in place, but one of them was moving around. I think they'll move around until they found a hole that they can stick their foot into for protection. Check out the Orange Flower Anemone that I traded to Jim Norris: http://www.tanku.net/

Am,
Like they said, they vary in color and you are correct their pic is not anything that really gets your attention. Kinda drab. I just picked that page because of the info it provided, not for the pic. I'm sure you can do some more looking around on the net if you are interested in ordering some. Maybe someone here has some they are interested in trading or selling.

FA are hardier to keep. They are collected here in the US & Caribean. Flower Anemone comes in many colors. The $5 one I got from Reeftopia was greenish, white, and purple tentacles. That orange one Jim Norris have, when I 1st receive it, I though it was dyed. The color was an intense neon Orange under Actinic Blue.
Unless you tell the divers to look for a certain color, the $5 that you're getting are not likely to look good under regular MH. They might glow under actinic, but that's pretty much it.
FA are predatory and can end up eating your sick/weak fishes. My fishes were always able to jump away after they accidently bumped into the FA. I accidently dropped a live snail on my FA once, I wasn't able to save the snail. I dropped a large dead Bangaii Cardinal fish on the FA, it swallowed it whole w/in a few second. One of my FA had a tiny babies. It also had released hundreds of eggs after being stressed (stuck out of water during a re-aquascaping event.) Good thing nothing ever came out of the spawning event; the FA didn't take over my tank. I
f you can get the orange, pink, aquablue kind, then go for it. Otherwise, don't bother buying the random $5 kind.
