Stopped by Pet Connection again today. They seem to be trying to improve their coral selection. They have replaced their coral tank. It is now a 125 with 2 400 watt h.q.i. mh's and 110 watts of pc actinic. it still looks a bit yellow but they will be adding another 110 watts of pc actinic to balance it out , so i am told. It is looking much better than it used too.

That's where I purchased my African Grey and really enjoy their knowledge about birds. I'm not really impressed with their fish set up, yes, I know they're trying or seem to be improving things....I just don't see them going the 100%. i.e. plastic plants in the saltwater tanks.

Not real impressed either. Always seem to know alot more about every coral than you or someone else might. Service not on the highside in thier mind. Its a must, if I go in there. Sad I live up the road. I've been there for new arrivals. Things dont get acclimated very long. Fish come in at about 7 7 :30 In tank before 8 then he runs you out quick! Always seem like I ask him to many questions. Simple things like how long you have had the fish, coral, whatever.. Not my kinda place to deal with. Have heard everytime in there, someone new to Salt. I once saw him sell an undergravel filter knowing it was going in a sand bed. Poor advise, Is all I've heard from them!!!!

This is why MAAST needs to do outreach to SW newbies. We're talking about some programs to address this.

Pet Connection is the place in Cedar Park right? I just sold him 2x400 watt XM's to put over his coral tank. Did he already switch them out with hqi's? I hadn't heard of 400 watt hqi's until someone told me PA was selling them....

Yep it's in Cedar Park.
I'm not impressed with the SW setup. Yes he's added some MH's to the tank. It's like they just found out you could buy them. I also hate the fact that they have Fresh water plastic plants in the salt tanks. That drives me nuts!

So, is he not using the XM's? If he is, it shouldn't be yellow at all..... they were 20k's

I think he had the XM's last time I was in there. (about 2 weeks ago). I thought the tank was blue'er than before. Plus he was bragging about his new MH's.

Yes it would be nice to have someone with knowledge. Setting up a tank for someone new to the game is tough. Especially when you have stores like this. I tried real hard to get a good relationship with these guys, IMO not worth the effort. Meet the guys, you will know where I am coming from!!!
If your new stay away from PetConection, these are the guys that prey on you. $$$$$$$ Is on their minds & nothing else. Not in it for the fun of the hobby or the hobbiest. $$$ Make Sense?

I was nearly thrown out of the store for recommending to some beginners that they get online and do their homework before buying any fish. Not buying fish online, just research. The only way to do Saltwater Fish is to do it their way, which I like to call "Spend and Learn".

They'll kick you out, Sam is the manager. Larry is the owner. These guys tell you anything to sell you. I think they might have stuff going up thier nose to their brains. Real twisted. Sorry if I tell the honest truth, or how I feel. Always seem to have a cold. I always feel like telling them they're full of ----!!! Now I would think one of them might get physical. I can hold my own, but just are'nt worth messing with.... Heck they dont care if you learn anything. Man I dislike these guys. They should stay out of the fish game. Aswell stay away from birds. Bird Dept. looks neglected to.

HELL YES THATS WHAT I'M SAYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I went by just for the hell of it tonight. He had a Sailfin that looked Bad. I asked him to feed him, so I could observe the fish. A Foxface fish in with him. He put some formula one in the tank. Both fish were freaking out. Swimming hard into the glass. Fox went to the top, just was all colored brown. The Sail was in a corner after he got hands out. Observed for another minute, he grabbed a chunk nibbled & split to the other side. He says look he's eating fine. I know fine & it was far from it. Had a dejardin in another tank little smaller. Asked about him, so he put food in & once again fish went nutts. Started laying on his side, then he talked to the fish " O comon dont act like that." Tapped the tank, Nothing, so he stuck his hand back in touched the fish to flip him right side up.
I told him I would pass, he is not eating. He said man he grabbed a big chunk. Then told me he would not sell a bum fish if he knew it. Fish was said to be there 3 weeks, I did'nt believe him. The fish had lots of Lateral fin damage. Just did'nt look good! Told him this, he said thats just stress. All tangs do this. I said thats odd my Purple & regal never did this. Always had an answer oh excuse for the fishes condition. No circulation in the tank, oh tanks. Sorry I just want to be thorough in explaining.
A big Thumbs down!!!
