What's up with the cost of CO2 tanks? I am looking for a 10lb. tank for my calcium reactor and the cheapest I found is a steel tank for $90 at Natwell! Praxair wants $98.85. These prices don't include filling them either! lol. Online, nice new aluminum tanks sell for $85 and these places don't deal with the volumn a local welding supply place does. Crazy. Anyone have a extra tank they want to sell?

you can rent a bottle of co2 from a homebrewery store or a hydroponic shop. i bought my used 20lb tank on ebay, and i get it refilled at a homebrewery store.

I could never figure out what's going on at Natwells either. I ended up buying a used tank from them, and it came filled for about $75, if I remember right. It's a 5 pounder. The funny thing is, it leaked, and I brought it back to get it fixed. As soon as the guy working there took it back to the work area, he started pounding away on it with a hammer, saying "its illegal to refill these tanks, so I have to destroy the marking on it" or some B.S. like that. Well, it was certainly clear when I bought the tank that I was going to get it refilled! I'd suggest a different place, maybe you'll have better luck. Homebrewers use these tanks all the time, and, like reefkeepers, are usually looking for a deal. So the homebrew supply idea is a good one.

Well I went to Natwells and spent my money. $90 for the steel tank and $11 for the fill. Drove around back to pick up the tank and it is an old tank with some rust already on it! For $90 they should give you a new tank! I found one date stamped on it that said 1975! Angered me, but they already had my money. I could have gotten a brand new, never used, aluminum tank for $85 bucks online and even with the shipping it would have been a better deal. Oh well. I could always cancel my check! lol

Chris, I'd consider going and talking with the owner. Maybe it would be a waste of time, but you might at least get a newer tank that's been painted. Tell 'em it's going to be near salt water and will rust like crazy if it's not newly painted.

LOL, it's out in my garage drying from my paint job right now! lol I figured I better put a coat on it to keep it from rusting. I'm not in the mood for fighting with them anyways, it's my b-day! lol :skeezy:

I got a 10lb. tank. It will fit under my stand with no problem. I was hoping to find a tank from a soda fountain machine during my travels with work, but no such luck. Oh well, tired of waiting and wanted to get the reactor up and going.

Josh - It was good for me, not my wallet! LOL, Gonna have a hang over in the morning and want to kill myself when the credit card statement shows up!
