You can do fine with either set-up.

does this mean ur gonna have to change ur handle(forum name)??? :P for that small a set up i would personally go with an HOB because that means u will be able to use ur existing light over the main tank to light anything inside the HOB(so u wouldnt have to buy a new one).

just my 2 cents, steve

I love my CPR BakPak. Get the RR model. I love it on my 20g. They are easy to clean, external to the system, and slim. That plus a good amount of live rock and you will be happy.

I've run tanks before without a filter, just powerheads and water changes.

Sump. It makes the tank look cleaner up top IMO. Not as many wires and stuff hanging off your tank. Another benefit, If you go with a sump is increased water volume. There are just many more options for equipment that can be stuffed in the sump (heaters, grounding probe, pumps, skimmer, ect).

I agree with utilizing a sump. Increased water volume means that stability will be easier to maintain, and we all know one of the main factors in a successful reef is stability in your parameters.
