I'm setting up a close loop for a 75 gal tank the Question I have is what size pump. The close loop will be a 4 head 1/2 outlets w/scwd to split the sides this should up the volocity at nozzles to reach other end. In other words 2 will only run at once. How big pump Mag 7,9.5 or 12????

I am currently using a Mag 18 running as my return into a SCWD. The 18 give great flow, in fact I have no powerheads in my tank just the SCWD. I have a mixed reef of softies, LPS, SPS and clams and everything is doing great. Hope this helps. If you are in Austin feel free to come by and check it out.

Hey Greg, Awesome tank!! Saw it in the image gallery. What size is it? and where'd you get your zoos from? I wanna get some that are as colorful as those but don't know where.

Thanks! The tank is a 75RR. As for the zoo's I have lots of different morphs of greens, oranges and blues. I will be fragging them soon so let me know if you are interested.

Is the 18 a little high as the SCWD is rated at 1400gph

Keep in mind that you are going to lose head pressure for each 90 degree angle you have and you also need to take into account the distance between the pump and the SCWD. IF you are worried about it just put a ball value on teh pump amd throttle it down. I would rather have more flow then I need thatn not have enough, just my opinion.

So pumping height would have an effect on whether you could use it or not, right?

So I think playing safe with a mag 12 and output of somewhere around 270gph per each outlet correct or 18 mag with a out put of 350gph per head. correct?? this should not be to much disspesed at 2 different levels and to different directions.
