I think I know the answer to this question, but I want to know if I can put these guys together. I bought some LR yesterday, and it came with some green starburst polyp, some green striped mushrooms, and some mystery coral that is light pinkish purple and resembles cabbage leather - by the way, anyone know what this is? Anyways, I have it in the 125 and am fixing to add the triggers (large Clown and med. Humu-Humu). Should I do this???

Thanks for the opinions,
Jenn

Triggers should only go into a FO tank.

Disagree. You can get away with it with many species. Niger triggers and many of the Xanthicthys (Blue Throat, Sargassum) are relatively coral safe and are primarily planktivores in nature . Clown triggers are notoriously unpredicatable though and while they may not really enjoy eating your corals they may tear them up out of boredom - same with the picasso.

Zoanthids, mushrooms etc are probably going to be about the only things you will be able to have a chance at keeping with your triggers since they grow relatively fast and are for the most part unpalatable to most animals.

Good luck.

Keeping two triggers together is tough also.

Man, Tim you took the words right out of my mouth. I also agree with Mike there are a few species take can go in a reef tank, but most belong in a FO. Jenn, where did you buy your live rock from?

These two guys are definitely a pair. They have a great bond, but are destructive "buttheads" - but I love em' anyways. I have chosen to break down the corner tank, and add the livestock from there to the large tank (Foxface, spotted puffer, pair of percs). Thanks for the replies.

Henry, I got the rock from Nunamakt yesterday. He is the one moving to Germany. The rock is beautiful, and has the most beautiful growth on it, but I am afraid for this one coral. Not sure what it is, but it is not looking good. I will take a pic in a few minutes to see if you guys can ID - and I may possibly sell it.

I have known of several people who are still successful with mixing a niger with corals and clams.

Here is the pic to go with my last post. I am trying out this new method of displaying my pics since my cam takes them so large. I am trying to find out what type of coral this is on the top left, and what this stuff is streaming up from my mushrooms?

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS DOES NOT WORK.

Looking @ Olivers pics makes me wish I saw my type of triggers or had that kind of cash!
Thanks Josh. I guess there are some that would work.

I have my 2 in a 50 tall and they are about 7" and 5". I know it could be bigger, but they have room to play and seem pretty happy.

So does anyone know what type of coral this is in pic #1, and what might be the stuff coming up from my mushrooms in pic #3?

It's a little beat up but looks like Sinularia dura a.k.a. cabbage leather.
