Nature View Tank vs. Oceanic Show Tank
They are made by the same company. So, What's the difference between the two? Greener glasses? Different quality of silicone?

Just wondering b/c at around $129(without shopping around,) a 58 gallons Nature View with glass top and light hood is very tempting to buy. I wonder if the Nature View light come with electronic ballast too or not?

I'm sure if you emailed them they could probably give you a better answer than any of us. Probably does have to do with the quality of the materials, mainly the glass.

I don't need 1/2 inch glass on a 58 do I?

I think the 58 is probably 3/8in thick. I have an Oceanic 58gallon sitting out in the garage and it is a pretty solid tank.

From what I have heard is the same thing Josh said about the tempered glass bottoms and thickness on the Natures View. I guess if you dont need to drill it, then you will be fine.. I dont think you can drill tempered glass (might be wrong).

the 58 nv and e-series tank have tempered bottoms and the molding is alittle different vs. the oceanic which is 3/8" all the way around with a little thicker molding. if you're not worried about drilling from the bottom then i would get the cheaper nv tank. the light strip is the same or similiar to the regular oceanic, and it does include a cheap bulb.

Yeah, I check out the Nature View at the store, there's a sticker on the bottom saying it's tempered. The only manufacture I know of that does not normally sell tempered bottom is AquaTrend. Some of those aquarium sold at Wal-Mart or Petsmart supposedly have tempered glasses on all side.

yeah, besides oceanic the only other local tank not tempered is aquatrend. they make the 65 gal. which is the same foot print, but just a few inches taller than the 58gal. i'm sure there are some other manuf. selling them as well just not as good of quality or something i would trust.

I used to have a 65gal tank from aquatrend. that thing was heavy. They will also build the tank to your specs and best part is if everything is available you will have you tank in a few days. I would chose aquatrend for a tank for a couple of reasons: One the tanks are of great quality and if there is any problem with workmanship you can drive it back to the shop. And two they are local.

I ordered a 65G from AquaTrend b4. The downside to a 65G Aquatrend is that it normally come with a glass center brace. I custom ordered my 65G w/out a center brace, and end up paying double the price. The Oceanic/Nature View does not have any center brace. If I remember correctly, the cost for a basic 65G stand from AquaTrend is only around $60 2 years ago. Pretty affordable stuff.

have to agree compared to anyone else doing custom work aquatrend does a good job at a good price. oceanic's custom work is great but you'll pay a sm. fortune.

The basic price for the stand still has not changed much. If I remember correctly I think I bought my 65 from fintique for $110-115 range.

I have a 100gal aquatrend that I got about 4mo ago. I paid $233 for it with 4 holes drilled in the bottom at dealer cost. Pretty nice tank, but I dont think the glass is as nice as some Oceanic's I've seen, but I do look at my tank more and with more detail than others tanks, so I could just be imagining it... BTW, I think the 75g aquatrend is like $130 range dealer cost.

You get what you pay for. My experience with AquaTrend tells me to stick with Oceanic product.

I own a Natures View 58 gallon and it is a very sturdy tank. The glass is 3/8" thick but it does not have beveled edges or nicer trim like the Oceanic would. $129 is a good price, pretty much at cost.
Perfecto ( i.e. Marineland) tanks also have a very good price plus a 20 year warranty. In fact I will be ordering a Marineland 265 next week to replace my 140 reef which sprung a leak 2 weeks ago.

Bottom line: anything over a thirty gallom tank has to have at least 7/16" glass, trust me on this one,,,, I had a sixty gallon tank explode in my living room that had 3/16" glass, in my opinion, the thicker the better when it comes to reefs....
