It has been my experience with long tentacle anemones that they typically split when moved. From what I know about BTA's they are pretty much the same. It probably is a defense mechanism as a result of the stress of being moved and water changes. I have also read that they typically will split if there is a big change in water quality, such as a change in salinity. There is a lot of info out there on how toi propagate anemones.

I'd say that you got a two for one deal. Congrats! BTW, are we married to the same woman? It sure sounds like it...

Hmmm...Rudy...that's interesting...Mine suddenly is on the move moving higher up the tank. It is huge...My husband told me last night it looked like it was trying to split. Will keep an eye on it & will let you know what happens...cool! Did a water change a couple of days ago.

I think there are certain triggers that cause anemones to split, as I mentioned earlier. Changes in water seem to be one of them. BTA seem to grow very large before they split. My LTA seem to get to a certain size before they split but do so a couple times a year. My LTAs usually split into 3 daughters when they do split. I'm not sure if that is typical of LTAs.
