I'm considering a Large Angel for my tank and to be exact I'd like an Imperator Angel but it seems to me that they are very susceptible to diseases since every time I see one it either has ick or cloudy eyes. Is the imperator Angel as bad as the Regal Tang when it comes to disease prone ?

Emporers are easy and make great pets. They are very personable fish. But, you have to get a healthy one. They usually don't get diseases as long as you feed them right. Its not that I've had a lot of them, but, between mine and friends, I've not had one get sickly or have any diseases they are prone to any more than any other healthy fish. Tangs are tough till they are established. The angels you see have been mis-handled and kept in some really bad tanks/water and without proper diet. There's always trouble getting one like that turned around.

I've noticed they tend to get lymphocystis when they first arrive. It's a viral disease that is probably is caused by the stress of capture and shipping. Since it's a virus there is no treatment but with good water quality and diet they will shed it off in no time and it will not spread to other fish. It's definitely not something to be scared of. You can easily spot lymphocystis, it's white fluffy stuff that is usually only on the edges of the fins. If they have it real bad it will progress down the lateral line, don't buy one that has it this bad. You can find a picture of it here...

Other than that I have not found them to be any more/less prone to disease than most other fish.
