Have the clowns ever spawned for you?

She lays hundreds of eggs at a time, but not lately. I have moved her a couple times in the last month. She will lay eggs about ever 3-4 weeks when she gets settled in again. They are up to about 300 eggs at a time.
She grabbed the anemones when I dropped them out of the bag and put it right down beside her. I have a feeling she is ready to pour out the eggs again. They are a very cool pair and I have been very happy with them for the last couple years. A lot of people have tried to buy them, but I can't part with them.

Tim,
As always top notch! GREAT pictures! Roses are something!
That would be way cool to see white spots on the maroon clown when the two clowns breed? ;)

Normally, how long does it take for the clown to get "settled in" after you move them?

White spots.......That is a good one...LMAO.... The dumb trigger things he is one of them. I guess someone told him he was a clown and he got confused.....He actually rubs against the clowns sometimes, but not like a threat.... That would make for an interesting fish. A clown clown? With teeth!???? At least it would be easy to feed, I bet the fry could just eat the live rock rubble.....LOL....

Jenn, I had this pair for about a year bfore they started to spawn. Then she only layed small patches of eggs for a while and the spawns slowly got bigger. The male died about a year and a half ago because I had a tank leak and had to move them to a system I had in the garage and we had a really cold spell, I couldn't keep the tanks warm. I bought another goldstripe the next week and she pounced on him instantly. It appears that with mine the female starts everything. She is very aggressive sexually. She will lay her eggs and push him up to them if he doesn't go right away. I have moved them to a couple different tanks in the last year and she usually starts to spawn in a month or two. They have been bounced around a few times this month so I imagine they'll spawn in about a month.

Hi Tim,
What's the spec of your system? and is that finger leather for sale? How many rose(s) do you have in that picture?

Your clown looks like a happy camper...couldn't wait for you to get the roses in the tank, huh??? And here I sit still waiting for my two blk/wht clowns to even notice my rose...they're still hanging out in the torch. Beautiful pics by the way Tim...they're awesome creatures.

She has always jumped right into something. Every tank she has moved to she has always used leathers, frogspawn, torch, hammers, just about anything. I am lucky, like I said she has been a good fish. She actually hosted in the finger leather in that picture until I tossed in the anemones. She has even hosted in long tentacle and condylactis. They lived for awhile in a tank I sold out of so she changed host daily back then. I am going to let her settle down again.

Vinh,
I have 3 actinic white VHO, and 2 65watt actinic PCs. It overflows into a 40 gallon sump and also pumps into a 30 gallon cube that I use for a refugium and frag tank. The cube houses a scorpion fish as well as the frags. Approx 70 lbs sand, 80 lbs of LR in the system. Kalk drip and 5 65watt PCs on the refugium, which runs on a lunar cycle. Calcium @ 480, PH 8.5, alk 2.2 milli equiv. per liter. 692gph return pump and 2 maxijet 1200's for circulation and an additional one to run the refugium.
Oh, and no you can't buy my leather, too hard to find that color.

Josh - sounds good. I can understand the affording one part. It's going to take awhile to recover from setting up this 75 and I have a strange feeling I'm going to be be spending some money at the next meeting! lol

Joshua...The only "threat" my 2 clowns face is my regal tang staying between them thinking he is one of them. Really comical. BTW...can a torch "hurt" the regal tang? Everytime the clowns host it, he tries too, then takes off across the tank & comes flying back. He doesn't let them out of his sight.

(The only other threat I can think of is the "clicking" I hear when lights out...pistol or mantis...don't know)

And my Rose is BIG...

Joshua and cap, looks like I am getting a split on one already. A bunch of tiny tentacles are starting to form on one edge going in toward the center and it is getting to be an oval shape. The mouth is thin and elongated, so we'll see.

Hey Jim, Whats the white spots you are talking about?? I have been breeding goldstripped maroons for a couple years and don't see spots.

Tim, great shots! Love em. I've never seen a clown trigger with things like that. Ever try one with zoos, mushrooms, coral?

Larry,
In the wonderful pictures there are 2 clowns in the pictures. So I was thinking if the female (maroon clown) has eggs they must have come from the male (clown trigger). Therefore if Tim is lucky he might get a spotted maroon clown fish! And like-wise a stripped clown trigger fish! :)
Sorry just my dry sense of humor.

Ok, then I have double vison. I see two maroon clowns (the male is under the leather) and the third clown is the spotted one. But since they seem to be trio, there's always hope.

What about triggers and softies as well as SPS?? That is the first I've sen a trigger with anything. I know most of the references are wrong, otherwise I wouldn't have Cooperbands with yellow polyps and corals, etc. and yellow clown gobies that eat coral. Talk about wrong as far as the references go. Its totally opposite the refs.

Larry,
Clown triggers are awesome---but reefsafe---who knows?

This isn't my standard. This is the first time a clown trigger has seen a reef at my house. So far it hasn't bothered anything except the urchin, which I expected. I have mushrooms, polyps, leathers, gigas clam, anemones, and acropora in this tank. I'll see, I just have to wait and find out. I do feed them 2 times a day though to deter him from eating other things.

VERY cool! I've been wanting to do a reef with "non-reef safe" fish for a long time. From what I am experiencing, the experts are way off so far. My bicolor blenny eats pink birdsnest! The yellow clown gobies rip the polyps off the coral all day long. And one really cool thing is my PAIR of six lined wrasses and two maroons that are similar is size.

Instar,
So how many gold striped maroons do you have right now? Have you been growing the fry up or just spawning them?

Tim,

I am currently looking to by a rose anemone for my maroon pair, let me know if you see a really good deal somewhere or if you decide to sell yours(I doubt :)) I am looking to find a large one since my clowns are some hefty heifers...
thanks
