amonia is perfect and so is everything else...

I wonder if my blue damsel and anemone had a fight to the death then the shrimp ate them both....

:(

Exploding anemones!?!?

Sounds like some of that biological warfare they keep talking about on the news! Could be the some of those weapons of mass destruction Bush has been trying to find from the Iraqi Navy! LOL :moon:

Seriously though, it is strange to lose both at the same time. How big was the anemone? Every so often mine closes up tight and gets very small. Have you looked behind the tank for the damsel incase it jumped out?

Maybe the anemone ate the damsel, then went out for coffee! If your ammonia is fine and you can't find the fish flopping around on the floor, I guess there is a chance that the anemone got it, then retracted into a crevice.

Jeesh, 39 to 94dkh really? Not a typo? like 5 to 10 times normal carbonate hardness? I didn't know that was possible. I bet there's a thread on this in the reef chemistry forum on reefcentral. Well, as a snooty bio-assay user, at least I don't have to worry about that one. :lol2:

Anemones have a bad habit of getting sucked into powerheads, powerfilters, overflows etc. When anemones die, it's a real mess. I've never had one just up and die overnight though. They usually just look bad for awhile before they die.

BTA's aren't normally fish eaters so I would doubt that's what happened to the damsel. Stranger things have though.

Thanks Josh for another blinding thread to read! LOL. I only made it through the first 6 pages. If someone will read the last several pages of posts maybe we can do a short summary! Actually the alk reading from the one test was 34meq/L (95dkh). The salt when mixed produced a think foam/lather at the top and eventually settled to the bottom. Reports have come from Canada and a few different parts of the U.S. Kind of makes me wonder about the last two buckets of IO salt I got. I got mine at PetsMart as many people have due to their big online special. One of the things I don't like about them is that anyone can open the bucket and do something to the salt after it leaves the manufacturing plant till the time you buy it at the store. I'm surprised they don't have some kind of seal on them. Hate to think about the damage someone could do by sabotaging salt mixes.

well I guess the anemone can be hiding really really well and the blue damsel could of jumped and my cat could of ate it before I got home....... hhhmmmm not worth a xray :)

hey, i think the anemone ate the damsel, than after that blew up it self and the shrimp ate all the left overs  !! i bet it hidden behind a rock somewhere in a creves, anemones have the tendacy to shrivel up really really small, hope it pops up soon!! GL

Do you have any "exposed" powerheads that the anemone could have gotten sucked into? If so, then I wouldn't doubt it. Does your water have an "odor" to it that is out of the norm, like maybe smelling "sweeter"? I observed that the several times (yes, several) my anemone lost a battle to a powerhead, the water smelled differently. If I were you, I would do a water change immediately, becuase if the anemone did get sucked up into a powerhead and was shredded, the "parts" in the water should start to affect your ammonia levels pretty fast. And if for some reason your anemone is "hiding" or had retracted completely because of a defensive reaction, chances are that there is either something in the water that is bothering it, whether it be chemical or animal. If it is chemical, then you would still want to do a water change. I have seen my 14" carpet pull itself under the sand bed to the size less than my palm, so your anemone can be anywhere if it trying to hide.

Ok, heres my input, My LTA has spawned three times in the past year, when I say spawned, I mean releasing err, uhhh,,,, you know what into the water for over an hour, causing the water to be very cloudy overnight but clearing the next day, after this occured, the anemone would bury itself below the sand surface rendering it invisible. When this happened, all the fish would hide. Do you recall if your skimmer was acting unusual while the water was cloudy? If so, this may be what happened.
