My carpet would always sting me, but it wouldn't bother me unless I eft my arm in the water for a long period, like when I was cleaning or rearranging, or if I had an open wound. The areas it would irritate were in sensitive places that didn't have thicker skin, like the wrist and the underside of my arm. It would then itch for a little while, but as soon as I washed the area it was okay. If my hands touched it, where there was thicker skin, I would see welts where I was stung, but I couldn't feel anything.

I had an open brain coral that if I handled barehanded would make my arm have a knumb sensation for awhile.

LOL, never been drunk enough to go licking a toad so I wouldn't know! Really wasn't a good sensation though, kind of made me worry if it was a sign I was going to have a heart attack! Needless to say I quit messing with that coral after it happened twice.

never by a coral but a couple of times by a lionfish, about an hr. after it happened i was pretty much bed ridden for a few hrs. not to fun. both times were by accident you live and learn obviously i didn't learn the first time. also once by a long spine urchin a sm. piece of spine broke off in my palm, i was then also off to lay down for a few hrs. they hurt just as much as a lionfish although i recovered alot quicker. i've also been bitten by many of fish only causing minor flesh wounds. oh and for anemones a carpet just kind of causes a burning sensation with the very stick tentacles, but not that big of deal.

I remember going on a trip to Jugoslavia, now called Croatia. The beach (Mediterranean Sea) was so full of urchins You had to wear tennis shoes at all times. Some of us thought they would not have to, but they all ended up at the hospital.

I had a very, very aggressive carpet anemone once. It repeatedly stung a prior owner who gave it to me with a warning that I tried, but failed to heed. The burns lasted about four days each time it struck me. It's terrible to say, but when it died I actually celebrated.
