How much fish for a 30gl cube??

Hope you are planning on upgrading soon. 30gal cube is too small for a blue tang. I know they are pretty, but it is not good to put a fish that needs lots of swimming room in such a small tank. Other than that, it all depends on the type of fish and filtration capabilities of the tank. Certain fish need more room to swim and others need very good water quality to survive. You need to research any fish you are thinking of adding in advance of buying it. As Tim mentioned, gobies and blennies are cool little fish.

I'd go for something like a clown, blenny (or goby), and a basslet (assessor, or gramma, etc.); I wouldn't put more than 7-8 inches (adult size) in a tank that small, especially if you have corals; fish are the major polluters in captive systems, and things can grow bad quicly in small tanks. I like the above mix of fish, as they are typically very hardy, stay small, and don't produce nearly the waste that say dwarf lion, or other predator would.

the most id put into 30 cube is a pair of pink skunks and a maybe 4 lta's

The regal will get too big within a year , maybe two at most - they need swimming room. Clowns are excellent for smaller tanks - how about adding a nice omnivorous blenny like a midas or bicolor and then perhaps a goby. You could do 3 or 4 fish if they stay relatively small - you can also control waste production by scaling back on feedings though this can be hard to do - and I hate people that starve their fishes to maintain water quality.

A couple ideas for stocking:


2 x false percula clowns
1x midas blenny
2x neon gobies


or maybe

2x false percula clowns
1x pygmy angel
1x watchmen goby

or how about this?

2x false perculas
2x yellow head jawfish (you need to make sure rock is sitting on glass and they have a mixed substrate to build)

or even

2x false percs
2x bangaii cardinals
1x misc goby or blenny

Lots to work with but any tangs, large wrasses, most angels would be out IMO. You might do ok with the clowns and a single dwarf angel also - though personally I'd give them a slightly larger more mature tank.

My clown became very territorial in my 20. I ran a yellow tang in that tank for a few months but they grow fast.

You will be happier in the long run with less fish and more coral. The tank is easier to keep with a lower bioload.

and a second tank, and a third tank, and new lighting, and a new skimmer, and.....
