The plans are still in the works, but I can let you know that the next meeting (which is where we will be electing officers) will be held Sunday, November 2 at Jim Norris' home in Austin. We are still hammering out some of the details and they will be announced soon. See everyone November 2!!

Misti - with the travel time to and from Austin from San Antonio, do you think we could start alittle earlier than 2pm? I would expect this meeting to last several hours and it would be nice to get back home before it is too late in the evening. Just my thoughts,

Chris

I am really looking forward to hosting the meeting. My tank has gone thru a major change from the last time most saw it! From fish to softies, to LPs and to sps corals I think the tank now has alittle of everything in it! I think most will be amazed at the growth of the corals from the last time you were here!
Update you more as we go!
Thanks,
Jim

I agree with the starting a little earlier idea, even if its only an hour or so...I have got to make it this time.

After speaking with Jim regarding this, it looks like we're going to go ahead and plan to open up some Austin area homes for tours during the hours BEFORE and AFTER the November 2nd meeting. This will give some out-of-town members an opportunity to swing by a few homes on their way in and out of town and see a selection of tank set-ups. There will be more information, and a post specific to this topic in a couple of days.

If you're in Austin, P-Ville, Rouond Rock, or Cedar Park and are interested in having your tank included in the tour, either PM me or hang in there until we put up the specific post for volunteers. The plan is to get everyone who wants to be included in the tour signed up within the next 8-10 days and build a brochure (paper and electronic versions) that would include brief tank descriptions, a single photo of the tank (if possible) and driving directions to the homes.

This should be a great opportunity for everyone to see quite a few different home set-ups in a short amount of time, and since we're doing it around the time of the November 2nd meeting, it will allow some folks who might not otherwise be here to participate!

Hope to hear from everyone in the Austin area who wants to be a tour stop! PM me or Jim Norris if you have any questions! Thanks! :-D

Maybe just a suggestion but meet at the meeting place first and setup carpools?

We're not planning to carpool, at least not in the morning. We're going to divide the tour into "north" and "south" area homes...the northside (north Austin/Round Rock/Cedar Park) homes will be open for tours in the morning, before the meeting. The southside homes will be open for tours after the meeting. It seems logical that some carpooling would be a good idea, especially for south Austin and San Antonio folks for the afternoon/evening portion of the tour.

There will be information, including map and driving directions for all host homes prior to the meeting. The plan is for folks to tour whichever homes they choose, on their own schedules. Some people will be on different timetables, and others may only want to view certain types of tanks, etc... We've chosen to go with this format for now, to ensure flexibility. If some members want to organize small caravans or carpools (a great idea for out-of-towners or folks that might be "directionally challenged" :) ), they can set something up on their own.

Feel free to PM me if you'd like to discuss in more detail.

Thanks!

just to keep everyone updated on the meeting not only will jim be giving a presentation on his awesome set-up. we will once again have a couple of raffle prizes that jim and i are putting together so bring some cash to participate all the proceeds really helps the club out during our initial stages. one of the products is a generous donation from fritz pet products courtesy of mike noce a sm. chiller, now you can't get better than that. everyone should start making plans to attend and also sign up for maast membership. a couple of the austin stores are already going to offer discounts available to maast members only.

Hi, everyone!

Don't forget the meeting is quickly aproaching. It will be at Jim's house starting at 2pm (sorry, with the possible tank tour starting earlier didn't work). He is located in Round Rock. The exact address will be posted after I make sure Jim wasn't waiting to post it for fear that all of us losers would show up a week or so early to get best frag choices. We have some great things to raffle off. There will be a Fritz Micro Chiller included in this raffle. This is a great chiller for small tanks (up to 32 gallons)! And 'shrooms always make everyone happy! This meeting we will be learning all we can about mushrooms of every size, shape, color, and texture! Please join us!

Update: Just received conformation from Sea Dwelling Creatures (the biggest and the best wholesaler in LA) They are donating a live coral and a book for this MAAST meeting. Along with this they are sending me dozens (or close to it) (edit) of cherry picked mushrooms of all colors and sizes.
This should be GOOD!

Well, I don't know about dozens and I was hoping for a more impressive selection than what I sent but there are some goodies in there. :D

Sounds like it will be a great meeting. I hope pictures are taken.
