When my CPR overflowed this weekend and tripped the GFI, what was it that caused the fish to die? Did they just suffocated from no water circulation? Seems like the tank would be OK for a day or two without any power?

Derek..what size tank do you have...and what are the inhabitants? This might help out a little.

65g. I had a Regal, Sailfin, Mandarin and a Firefish Goby. Lots of SPS.

Did your corals die? Maybe they went first from lack of circulation and polluted the water. Just a guess. Bummer, man.

I just read your last thread. Probably it was the sand bed die off that triggered a build up of ammonia.

Add this to the list of CPR overflow problems. Derek, rather than giving up, maybe you'd consider getting your tank drilled or at least a more reliable overflow. Those things have kind of crummy reps.

Matt, I agree, lots ot worms and critters were dead. What would have caused their death? I'm trying to get to the core problem here.

What causes the CPR to overflow. I have never heard these negative things about them before.

Derek,

I would try one of the little plug in air pumps. The one that plugs in and charges up, then when the power turns off the pump starts up.

I am sure that someone has the link needed. I have seen it being discussed on this board.

He said he CPR BAK PAK overflowed in the other post. We are talking about a skimmer, not the CPR overflow...

Anyways....
In your other post you started off saying that your collection cup overflowed, then later on you said that you carbon bag clogged the output and the skimmer overflowed. You need to figure out what happened and then we can get you a solution. I have never had a problem with my bakpak ever. If your collection cup is overflowing, than try raising it up a little. Also, if you put stress coat in the water for some reason, that would cause it to pull lots of foam out of the water and probably overflow. If your carbon bag is clogging the output, take it out...

BTW, how long as the tank been running, and are any of the parameters out of wack, that would cause the skimmer to collect alot of waste?

Whitecap,

Sorry for the confusion. I was just trying to figure out what happened. Nothing really seems to add up though. I do know that the foam chamber was the one that overflowed.

As far as that battery pump, I don't see how that would help much for a 65g tank?

Joshua....I also have the Penn Plax Silent Air B11 Backup System. It worked beautifully these past 2 weeks with all the storms & power outage probs. They normally run about $15 to $20.

Handy to have.

Oh yeah, I should have read closer. sorry 'bout that! I have heard lots of stories about CPR overflows losing siphon and flooding, though.
