Bubble Tip Split?

I've got a little brown Bubble Tip Anemone in my nano6. We've had it in there for about four months now. Last night we noticed it was acting strangely...moving around...which is odd for this particular anemone. When we checked the tank again at bedtime, it had SPLIT, and there now appear to be TWO distinct and separate anemones in the tank. Both seem to be doing just fine this morning. Is this NORMAL? :shock: Is this the way these anemones reproduce? Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated! :?

I believe they can also reproduce sexually but asexual fission is most common in captivity. It is sometimes induced when the animal is stressed.

Have you been feeding it? I have 2 BTAs that just kind of hang out and never do anything - I do feed them but no splitting yet - one is about a year old the other is about 3 mos.

We feed some raw shrimp directly on occasion, and do some Zooplex or BioPlankton about twice a week. The rest is just regular water changes and normal tank stuff. I did provide both "new" anemones with small pieces of raw shrimp this morning, and both accepted the offering.

If they are eating thats a good sign. Congratulations!

I keep thinking maybe I should but 5 or 6 rose anemones and set up a tank for them to keep splitting.
