The next MAAST meeting will be Sunday, September 28 in San Antonio (18736 Roger's Glen, 78258) at 2:00 pm. This is half way between 281 and 10 off of 1604 in Roger's Ranch - Crosstimber. E-mail me if you need my phone number.

The meeting will be on nano-reefs and setting them up! I know that I am very excited to hear about this topic! I hope everyone else is, also! We are working on raffle items, keep your fingers crossed!

Please, bring frags to trade with others! It has been a few months since we did any trading - I know we are all needing something new! The club will not have any to buy this time, so everyone that has something extra, please bring to trade or sell with your fellow reefers!

I'll keep you posted!

Are the meetings always on Sundays? I work Sundays :( Till 7

I have to agree about the always on Sundays meetings issue. Saturdays tend to be my free to do anything day and Sundays are the days I have to get stuff done around the house and get ready for the work week. I know everyones schedules are different and everyone can not be accomodated, but I think we should vary the meeting day occasionally.

We have done both Sundays and Saturdays now. The Sunday meetings had many more people show up, so we started doing meetings on Sundays. We will try to mix them up a little more in the future! Sorry!

No problem Misty. I think the real reason more people showed up at those meetings was because of stuff being given away and such (coral fragging/Jim's Clams), not because of the day of the week.

Cool topic for the meeting. Are we going to setup a nano, just like the people from Tetra did? LOL. I'm assuming that we will be discussing the basics for a nano ie filtration, additives and such. We had a pretty large turnout for the last meeting and not much was given away. I happen to prefer Sundays, less to do that day.

Sounds like an excelent topic. I'm debating setting up a nano in my soon to be babies room.

Sounds great. Though my smallest doesn't quite make the nano but it is a 20gallon with retro lighting. I am fixing to up the lighting to 2X55w compact flourescent. Currently it has a 2 X 32watt. Oh yeah, my son confiscated it and it is now in his room. Oh well, just makes it easier for the wife to let me buy more stuff.

here's just an update. there will be a few good raffles to take part in, i would rather not reveal them at this point you'll just have to come to the meeting to find out . maybe even a door prize or two and over course probably some frags, so everyone should try their best to make it. not only for the prizes but to hear a presentation on a growing subject nano's. everyone could learn how to set-up a sm. nano/pico for their desktops at work, it's very affordable.

Great idea! Yes I will video tape it. I was wondering does anybody have a DVD burner? Then we can turn it into a disc. I have a Sony digital video recorder that you can plug right into a usb port.

Jim - Actually I don't mind being pictured/video taped just that this **** desk job I have had the past few years has made me fat (well beer and kripsy kremes didn't help either I'm sure) .

Didn't want you all to think I was in the witness protection program or anything!!!

Sorry, death in the family has prevented me from getting the details to you. My address is 18736 Rogers Glen, SA TX 78258. Mapquest has good directions and they are finally correct. This is at 1604 and Bitters, half way between 10 and 281.

As we discussed in a different post, I thought that this months food was taken care of and we were looking at Mike for next months food. Was I incorrect?

Don't apologize! I greatly appreciate the help. I ordered a few trays, trying to keep the $$ low, and am doing some baking (don't I always). I figured that Mike's excellent food would be better for next months meeting....

Hi everyone,

I just joined this club from the web, and I was looking forward to go to the meeting. The only problem is that I will be on a trip to NY that Sunday. I hope I can make it next month.

My husband and I had a 55 gal reef tank for 4 or 5 years. We just switched it to a 180 gal tank about 3 months ago. Things have been growing well in there. Just can't stop buying stuffs.

Hope to meet you all in next month's meeting.

I have had the nano we will be auctioning off set up and running a good month now - has zoos, shrooms, and a few kinds of leathers in it. The lights are done I just need to finish the canopy (err start it that is). It's looking really sweet - I'll post pics early next week.

Also if anyone planning the meeting needs to get in touch with me drop me a line on my cellphone at 751-5060 or pm me here.

Depending on what people want out of the meeting I'll take the presentation in that direction - I may rehash some old stuff like cycling but in the context of nano-reefs a lot of things change so it might be worht it. Most of it will hopefully be interesting and I want to give people a good idea of what's available and ideas for some cool nanos - from the simple to the elaborate!

Gonna bug the wife into going at least for an hour or two to meet people.

I'll see if she'll whip up a batch of her world famous egg-rolls to augment
the chili if that is ok with the host. (Who can resist homemade egg rolls?)

We could also trade cups of each other's live sand so that we can give our sand beds more diversity too.

I am writing up a booklet I will get turned into a pdf later and put it on the website - I am going to hand out an abbreviated version at the meeting just to give everyone who is interested in Nano's a little information to start with.

Sweet, I'm also not going to be able to attend. DEFENSIVE DRIVING, ahhh. But I do have a nano and really interested in the info. Looking forward to the PDF file and I also have a DVD burner, so in case anybody needs it to burn the video, just let me know.

Thanks

Hello,
I'm new to this forum, I just stumbled upon it by a link from Joshua I found on reefcentral.com. I may try and attend as well for at least an hour or two. The only frag I have at this point is a couple of pom pom xenia's, they are growing like crazy in my tank. I will bring these if anyone is interested in trading. I also have a 10 gallon tank I set up for my son a couple of months ago with some extra equipment I had lying around. So I'm interested in the nano discussion. I hope to see you all there!

I noticed on Mapquest there are access gates. Will they be open or do we need a code, password to gain entry?

MikeP
Sat, 27th Sep 2003, 12:27 PM
In addition to the small 2.5 gallon nano with corals I threw together I am bringing a AGA minibow 7 with a HOB filter and a 32 watt light upgrade to raffle off - proceeds going to the club.

Currently, the guard does not come on duty until 630 or 7 pm, and the gates close at sundown. We should be fine for the meeting.

In addition to what Mike has put together for raffle, we have a few other donations that will be raffled off! Come and see what they are!

I had hoped to have a small booklet (and yes it is now approaching book size ) done and hand out copies at the meeting but due to work constraints haven't been able to finish it and make it up to my standards. So I am going to hold off on it and just throw it up on the MAAST website as a free downloadable PDF file once I finish it in the next few weeks.

If you have questions about nanos be sure to write em down - I still plan to cover the basics and special considerations with nanos and wanted to spend some time talking about different tanks you can set up.

I'll be happy to make it to this meeting, since not only was I gone for the last one but I also have a nano. A minibow 7 with HOB power filter (Until the CPR comes in), Powerhead for movement, and a Retrofit hood that hold 2-32 Watt CSL bulb (1-actinic, and 1-10,000K). It has a false Pecula, Peppermint Shrimp, a Large Mex. Turbo, 2 Sm. Blackfoot snails, 3 nassarius snails, sm. Pom Pom, sm. colony of Zoo's, sm. Acro, 2 med colonies or Green Stars (thanks to Chris), and a large Colt that I'll be fragging very soon (it's taking over). There is some macro can't remember what kind. I'm not bringing any frags this time, but will be looking to buy maybe 1, or 2. I know it's short notice, but does anyone have an extra emerald crab I could get? I also need to talk with Misti about a little donation to the club. I will be moving to Italy in late Jan, early Feb so I will probably frag out almost all of my corals, and give them to the club. I'm going to keep my equipment because where I'm going is right off of the Mediterreanian sea. We have acces to a private beach, so hopefully collecting livestock won't be a problem. I can't wait. :-D

See you all there. :D

It's not a good Pic, but thats my tank.
