Looks like some kind of crustacian. Should I net him?

I hope they aren't those fish eating "leeches". Didn't you have some of those at one point Josh ?

I had one of these attach to my female percula. It looked like a cross between a rolly polly and a shrimp. I put the percula in a bag to take to the LFS in the hopes they would know what it was. When I put her in the bag, it fell off. It left two bite marks in her side that looked like a rattle snake bite.

The LFS had no idea so I killed it. That was five years ago, the percula is still doing fine. I've not seen any more since.

I too have Florida rock. I bought it before harvesting it became illegal (1994). Despite the "bug" I like my Florida rock.

Yeah, a cross between a rolly polly and a shrimp... and a vampire. I scared my tang half to death trying to net him. Then I gave up temporarily. Now it fell off and I'll never find it. Maybe there's only one.

Thanks guys, nice link.

Well, I did lose two firefish recently. The third one looked like he had been in a fight. This isopod looks female refering to the drawings. I will have to do a night time vigil.

I got the G.V. rock June 3rd. None of the other fish seem stressed. In fact my regal tang is playing with snail shells right now. He carries them around. He does have a little mark on his fin though.

My blue tang had a similar mystery spot on his dorsal fin, except it was not that brown ( was not ick) and now that area of his fin is gone. No other spots or marks on him and he is eating and acting fine. Is yours acting ok? I thought that perhaps my cleaner shrimp have just been too rough with him.

Hey Josh, I followed that link and found the photos of the "ribbon" worms interesting. The other night I saw some worms like this "swimming" against the back glass. They were about 1 " long, and moving just like eels or snakes. Kind of creepy, but I don't know if they're harmful. I'm about to nuke my tank for flatworms, as soon as I get a few days off to deal with the possible consequences. I guess I'll siphon out as many as i can find, then hit the tank with flatworm exit, then run lots of carbon and blast my skimmer. Maybe these worms will go with the flatworms as well.

Hey, I made a bottle trap and put it in last night. Within 15 minutes I had two smaller rolley polley shrimp vampires in it. The big one is still on the loose. Those traps work! I wonder what else I can catch.

how do you make a bottle trap?

A bottle trap is really easy to make. I used a 1 litre plastic bottle, like what you would buy soda pop in. Just cut the upper part off about an inch below where the bottle starts to taper at the top. Flip the top part over and shove it back into the bottom part. Some people punch a couple holes in it around the top through both layers and put twist ties through the holes to make sure the halves don't seperate. I don't think this is necessary. I don't like the idea of twist ties in my tank. The bait goes inside the bottle before putting the top in. I used scallop for bait last night. Yeah, I spoil my fish.
