I am setting up my tank, 135 gal but i need to fill the tank. What is everyones opinion on an RODI system? Is it easy to install? What about the benefits? My tank is not near the kitchen, its closer to the second bathroom, wouldnt be too tough to run a hose. Let me know!

is there a way to not permanently install it? can you just hook it up when you want to use it? Or, how hard is installation?

You can get fittings to just screw it onto a faucet outside. I have mine permanent with a kent float valve in the sump. It never need me to top it off, and no buckets to fill.

I just hook mine up when i need it. I have a 30 gallon trash can that is in a closet right next to my tank. It only needs to be filled about every three or four weeks. i also drilled the bottom of the trash can and went to home depot and got a faucet piece and screwed it in to the bottom of the trash can. Then i attached a hose to the trash can and ran it to my sump. It takes me about 20 seconds to top off my tank every day. It is cheaper than a float valve and I don't have to worry about my float switch getting stuck and coming home to a freshwater tank.

RAllard install my RO/DI w/ the RO drinking kit & storage tank for me. I'm sure he can run the hose around your house for you if your tank is far away. You can go through wall and ceiling if your tank is far away. The pressurized storage tank have a 3 gallons holding capability so that I don't have to stand there and wait for the water to filter through.

My tanks are not near a water supply either, so I installed it under the sink without a holding tank and just pull out the hose and open the valve as I need it. It doesnt flow as fast as the faucet so I start filling the containers the day before I want to do water changes.
You can add a tank if you wish to have a little on demand for drinking.

Yes, most kits come with some. Do you have anything or will we start from scratch?

This is the RO/ ID im looking at. As far as plumbing goes for the tank, we will be going to home depot!!! The bulkheads will be in, but thats it. I was thinking of flex hose for the time being,

You can find more Schedule 80 plumbing parts from Lowes. I don't think they carry aquarium quality bulkhead of the local hardware store. You'll have to buy it at the fish specialty store. For your overflow, you should build two Durso Pipe Mods.
That's a good deal on the RO/DI, I easily paid more then twice that more mine. I wonder how long their RO filter is rated for?
