Torch Coral

I have about 4-5 torch corals that have sprung up by themselves in my LR...and about 3 of them are close enough to each other that I looks like one large one. That particular bunch is getting too big & I'd like to try & remove them from the rock. It is a large rock they are attached to.

Josh...if you read this post...I saw where you posted a couple of weeks ago that you removed an anemone with a credit card. Think that would be an option for a torch coral? If not...any other ideas?

Torch coral have a hard brittle skeleton w/ a meaty upper top. It's ok to cut through the hard brittle skeleton w/ a plyer. Just be careful, I have split the upper head of the torch in half by trying to frag it b4.

Is it better to do when open or closed (night) - or it prob doesn't matter - they'll close up anyway....?

BTW Vinh...the colony of neon green star polyps I got from you back in March/April (?) are really nice neon green & growing nicely... :D

It doesnt' matter when you you cut it. But b4 you take it out of the water, you should shake it back and forth for the polyps to retract as much as possible. They don't have to retract all the way b4 you can take it out of the water.
Thanks, I like my GSP too, it's metallic under 20K or actinic bulb. I haven't got around to propagate them into my tank wall, nor the bottom of the tank. My plan is to get them away from the rock so they don't take over the LR.

Mine are still on the sole rock they came on - I set it a bit away from the rest of my LR...it is starting to form on the sand itself. Thought I could control it better that way also.
