Thought I would share my good news with ya'll also. This weekend I stiped my male cardinal of fry, I got 38 out of it  Currenlty I'm feeding baby brine shrimp and will be moving the fry to larger enclosure I built last night out of a pcv frame and bridal veil.

Yeah, I just learned about that cyclop-eeze this weekend and of course the LFS doesn't sell it.

Adaminaustin - I'm starting a list in case a large number survive, would you like 1 or 2 fry? That is if you don't mind the drive over to get them?

Put me down for two.
Seahorses.org has a bunch of info on raising Baby seahorses. Maybe you can get some ideas from them. I know thay have alot of info on BBS and rotifers.

Well this is the second batch I'm raising. Last time the male on spit out 8 and I raise two that were big enough to go to other tanks. This time I made a larger enclosure that I will keep in the main tank with the parents. I'm hoping the extra space and better water quality will be a deciding factor.

Way cool, saw the pic, 38 miniatures!!
Just out of curiosity, how can you tell the males from females if they haven't yet bred? or can you? I'd like to try my hand at breeding them and a few other sp. sometime down the road.

Such a fascinating hobby, yet so much more than a hobby :)

Have you ever tried the fake urchin or even a real one in with the babies? May make them feel a little more secure and keep the parents or other critters from eating them so easy.

I just built them a large enclosure to keep them in the main tank with the parents.

I'm not sure if you can tell very well but the male has a straighter jaw line than the female.

This weekend I stiped my male cardinal of fry

How did you strip the fry out of the male? Mine held them for about ~15 days and then swallowed them! He has done this twice that I know of.

He more than likely spit them out. I didn't get any fry out of my male til about the 4 spawning.

I corraled the male into a net and when I started to lift it out of the water, he spit all the fry out. Now mind you, I never acutually got to take the net out of the water, he spit them out before that.

I think next spawn I'll have to tape that, it was really cool to see. :)

Pernelf,
Very cool! my hats off to you. This and other successfull and not so successful breeding events and experiences would make an excellent topic for a MAAST meeting! Ive been trying to get my jawfish to get their eggs to fry for two years, Id love first hand information from people in the "know".

I'll buy them all off you if you can grow them large enough to eat regular foods.
