I was just wondering if anybody has ever considered using a battery back-up system for a computer, to keep a couple of powerheads, or an airpump working in case of a power outage. I don't know muh a few powerheads actually use but I bet it's alot less than a computer and monitor. I know they also have different capacities. I just thought about it when I saw a good deal at Best Buy the other day. Does anybody have any idea why this would or wouldn't work? Just curious if anybody has tried it.

I think we had someone else bring this up previously. I don't recall if anyone was actually using one though. They would work.

I ran one on my 180-gallon reef up in Dallas. I also had OxyGens on hand (I do not know if they are still around) to add to the tank if needed. The area where I lived was in a small town and electricity could be spotty during a large storm. It worked quite well. I did not run the system pump, skimmer, chiller or lights though, just 4 powerheads to keep flow going.

I use a 500w power inverter, just run an extention cord from my trucks cigarette lighter.,, it will support powerheads and air pumps indefinately, unlike a UPS.

I use a UPS... it has ran my main pump for ~8 hours on two occasions.
