Just thought I would share my plans for a new larger reef tank.

I have ordered an Oceanic 135 show aquarium from Austin Aquariums (thanks Charley & Michael).

The back will be drilled and a 6ft wide waterfall overflow like Calfo shows in his book of coral propagation will be installed.

An Eheim pump will return water from the sump, probably through a SCWD then into the main tank. An 18 gal refugium will sit next to, but slightly above the 135. A minijet will pump water from the 135 to the fuge and a U-tube will return water from the fuge to the main tank.

Lighting will be two 250w Metal Halides to start, may add PC or VHO to supplement later.

Building a custom stand to hold the 135 and 18 with room underneath for the sump and all the extra stuff that seems to accumulate so quickly.

Your thoughts/comments are welcome.

This will be the first “Calfo” style overflow I have ever seen. Cannot wait to see how well it works. Ed, you might start a trend. (Grin)

Ed - when you get your tank can you post a pic or two of your overflow? I'm not familiar with that type and would like to see how it looks and works. Thanks!

Cap,

You bet! I'll post pics when I get it going. In the meantime, you can see a drawing (taken from Calfo's book) of the design here:

Ed - that is an awesome overflow idea - I saw it in his book but kind of passed over it. I may give it a try on a tank someday for fun.
