Hey everyone, I have decided to go with a drilled tank this time and was wondering if anyone can make corver overflow boxes. I have tried to contact Bill but no reply. It will be going in an 18 gallon high tank. If anyone could direct me in the right way I would totally appreciate it!
Thanks!

If you are going with a drilled tank, why do you need an overflow box?

Hi;
I just made one for Josh. I'm not in the business, but I had some leftover acrylic laying around. Tim Marvin knows someone. (maybe that's Bill, who you couldn't get in touch with) Anyhow, if you have a router and router table, you can do it. You can also get an acrylic place to do it, but they'll charge. There's also a guy here in San Antonio named Dan that does good acrylic work, although he might use extruded, which I would not do.
The way I do it is like so: Get 2 pieces of 1/4" black cast acrylic in the size you need for each side; leave about 1/2" extra length on the front (usually the longer side) Cut your notches with a 1/4" straight bit using a fence behind the bit to make sure they're the same depth, and another fence on the side for the placement of the notches. Just move it 1/2" between each cut; this leaves 1/4" notches spaced 1/4" apart.
Solvent weld the two pieces together leaving a 1/4" overhang; you can research this on a million DIY posts on RC or RDO. Flush trim the 1/4" overhang off. If you have a round-off bit, you can round the edge.
It's really not that much work, just make sure that your stop fence is set up right so that the notches are straight and evenly spaced.
I would do it if I had the time, but I'd have to charge more than I'm comfortable with, because I'm slow at it. A pro who has all the right tools can whip this out quick.

Matt, Thanks so much for the help! I now know that I could do it, but at the moment I have absolutely no woodworking tools that I could use because I am in the process of moving into a new house. I have an established tank right now, but I am trying to get the new tank ready to switch over while I am making the move, so I just bought another 18 gallon tank. Once again, thanks so much!
Thanks!

If your interested I could check with Dan from Dan's Aquaplex and get you a price. His prices are very reasonable and he has done a nice job on several sumps he's built for me. I think his overflows are made from one piece of bent acrylic. Give me a call at the store with dimensions needed and I will check on a price.
