I just setup the plumbing on my 100G with dual overflows. Im gettin alot of turbulence where it dumps into the sump, is there any tricks to calm it down?

Basically, the water come down through durso's to the bulkhead then to a union, though 3 45's(2 to flow horizontal, and one on it side to go out around the returns). From there, they come together to a T and dump down through a valve to the sump, but there is alot of turbulence in there and ALOT of air bubbles. Its a little better with the drain under water, and I put a T under water also, so the water flow out the sides. Im still getting ALOT of turbulance at the surface, most likely because of all the air in lines. The flow is probably somewhere between 800+/-GPH(single Mak4).

My water return barely under the water. I use a flexible hose so that I can adjust the height of the return as needed. You can buy use Micron floss bag to cut down on the bubble from the return if you want. (You know where you can get them if you need one. LOL) You should buy several b/c the floss bag needs to be rinsed about once a week. They have different micron hole sizes to fit your situation.

instead of bioballs but some base rock down there. I had the best results using a spray bar. Cut down on bubbles dramatically.

My sump have bioballs mostly under the water to give some nitrate for the macro algae to grow. Even with the bioballs I'm still getting micro bubble in the return. A big bag of Poly Filter cost about $2.50 at Wal-Mart. You can stuff the Poly Filter into your baffle area and eliminate the micro bubbles from being returned in your main tank. I don't put too much Poly Filter into my baffle out of fear it will clog up/slow down the water flow and make the return pump go dry. That's why I have that big bag of Poly Filter when you were here and asking you if you wants to get some. What I hate about Poly Filter is that the small strand of fiber do separate and looks messy blowing around. I'm sure it can clog up your pump too if enough are accumulated in the impeller.

My bad, it's called Poly-Fil. Used for stuffing pillow or doll, teddy bear.
