Kalkwasser question

Could somebody please explain the benefits of using Kalk as opposed to using any other system. I'm considering using the ESV B-ionic system but it seems that Kalk is pretty inexpensive. I'd probably use the Kent Aqua-Dose drip system. Besides adding the Kalk mixture, what else would I need to add? All I've ever used is Seachem products so I'm trying to find something else that works, that is a little more simple.

My tank is 46 gallons, and I'm growing SPS, LPS, and clams. Do you know about how much I'll need to buy. I can get it in either 32, or 64oz or 2gal. Im just not sure how fast I'll use it up.

For a 46g SPS clam tank, Id use a kalk reactor and suppliment with B-Ionic. Thats just me though.
