I set my tank up in late march.

Just noticed a tiny feather duster starting to grow out yesterday.

I knew there could be surprises, but 3 months after I set the tank up?

Kinda interesting.

I noticed the same thing in my tank after a while. It started as just one and two here and there and then they just seemed to blossom all over the place. pretty cool.

It's amazing what can grow out of rock even after a long time. I have a piece of rock with what I thought was the dead remnants of some type of hard coral. A couple of weeks ago I turned off my lights except for my actinics and the thing was glowing an irridescent green color so I guess it's alive after all (always thought it was odd that algae never grew on it). I bought this rock almost a year ago and had never seen that before.

As Richard said, all kinds of stuff can show up over time. It's really amazing to watch what life comes out of what seems like a plain old rock! I've had my tank up and going for almost a year or so and I'm still seeing new things grow. I always loved watching it at night during the first few months and seeing what new things I could find swimming and crawling about the rock. Really cool.

I've got remnants of hard coral on my older rock, but I am 101% sure it's completely dead.

I am looking to start with a frag of idiot proof coral in the near future though.

It's gotta be Tang and Damsel proof though...
