Anyone have an idea about clearing up my new 100 gal? I rinsed the southdown, and started up the tank about a week ago. Still only about 2" of visibility. Since I'm moving this weekend, I was planning on moving my livestock in to this tank on Sunday. I've tried running some fine filter media, added some liverock and sand from my current system, and next I'll try getting a skimmer in there. I've got both the return and closed loop going; maybe if I stop the closed loop it will settle faster. I wouldn't mind waiting for the stuff to just settle on it's own, but moving day is fast approaching, and I'd REALLY rather not re-set up my 45 and 10 gal tanks at the new place.

Also, does anyone have any experience moving animals (4 fish and a bunch of corals) into cloudy water? I'm thinking it's got to be tough on them.

Thanks for any advice.

While waiting for the sd to settle, I would shut-off the closed loop. This should help settle. Other than blocking the light, I don't see anyother problem. Just be sure to dust off the corals once the SD settles.

I was wondering about this too. What about the fish breathing this through their gills?

you can use a diatom filter to clean up most of it in short order.

Hey Josh;

Do you have a canister filter I could borrow for a couple of days?

Thanks, Matt
