I went without any sump/skimmer/filter on my new tank for 2 months. All of a sudden, I started to get hair algaes growing, covering up the glass. I was having trouble looking into my tank. Joshua drop by my place last weeks so he can tell you how bad my tank look. Anyway, I dropped a lawnmower blenny, 102 Astreas, 12 Nerites, 6 Cerith snails into my tank last Tuesday. By Friday, most of the hair algae patch have disappeared. It's nice to finally be able to look inside my tank again. Sweet Clarity!, and I didn't even clean out anything by myself.

If you have alot of hair algaes, buy the snails, but don't, ever, ever, ever buy any hermit crab. Hermit crab tend to pick on the snails, slowly wiping it out. My algae is only growing on the glass. I don't know how fast the snail can clean out deep rooted hair algae on live rocks. I'm going to get rid of half of my snails so they don't die from starvation, fouling up the system further.

Now I have to worry about the corraline algae growing on the glass.
