Im thinking about gettin this one for the 7 gallon since I could use it for the next several years while in the military. I could also use it on a 10 or 15 gallon if I ever decide to increase tank size. Any input would be appreciated.

They had a 10 percent off sale on this stuff awhile back. I was going to buy one, but I didn't b/c I couldn't find anyone who have actually bought one to get feedback on it. You can also find 70Watts HQI Pendant. AquaTek here in Austin uses some of the 70Watts HQI over their two 75 gallons Zooanthid & LPS tank.

It's a Gieseman, and the cost is out of my leage. I'm sure there are more then one company selling them.

Sunlight supply makes a 70 w HQI reflector/pendant also. I think PFO too - check hellolights and marine depot or premium aquatics.

I have had great service from Champion. Never a problem even with returns. The only draw back is waiting 7-10 days for delivery.

Me too. I'm going back and forth myself. I've been confused since two years ago. Florescent, T5, or HQI. Then HL have those cheap XM retro for sale that's very tempting.

You should get 150Watts HQI 20K, hopefully that will be dim enough. If it weren't for those cheap 250W XM retro, I would've bought a 150Watts HQI setup already.

For 150Watts HQI, you can choose from 10K Ushio, 10K A&B, 20K Ushio, 20K (Hello Light)XDE, 10K Icecap

For 150Watts Single Socket, there's 50,000K Iwasaki.

Or there's 175Watts 20K XM

You dont' want to try to Champion Macro HQI out and tell us how it went?

There's a bunch of other cheap brand HQI pendant out there. But i'd rather not gamble w/ lightning. It's the thing that can short out and burn down a house.

well I tried my hand at wiring and didnt manage to fry a thing (knock on wood). I have that iwasaki running off a DIY mercury vapor ballast and it worked without any problems.

Ben,

Have you thought about going with a Power Quad. This would give you a lot of light, without worring about heat, and it will also have a smaller price tag. I have seen nano's with power quads and the lighting is very
impressive. Impressive enough to keep anything you want.

I have considered that but it just isnt the same without that shimmer!!!! woohoo. I dont feel I could get the coloration in SPS with a powerquad that I could get with a halide.
