I use them when I can get my hands on some. Since I started I did notice a difference in corralline growth. I think there was a threat on RC about this as well. I found they work best if place in an area of low flow and let them dissolve slowly. JME

Hello everyone, i'm new to the forum and reef keeping, me and a friend have just began posting on this site. We too ran into those no. 28 blocks at the LFS, we were told that they worked great, so we purchased one block for a dollar. However, upon further reading we discovered that those blocks do contain some copper (don't remember the exact amount). And we had read some posts that copper was not good for the tank? With that information we have held off from using the blocks, till we can find out more.

I've used them in the past and saw no benefit at all. I think regular water changes are much better for your system that any additives that are available.

EVERY qualified expert that I know of that consistently writes accepted scholarly articles on marine reefkeeping, including Eric Borneman and Ron Shimek, emphatically discourages the addition of trace elements or heavy metals. If you use any commercially available salt mix, you already have way more than NSW levels of these trace elements. Shimek calls all these products "poisons" and I would tend to believe him.
