hey all,
can anyone diagnose this ailment?
i woke up this morning and looked at my twin spot. he started to dart on the sand bed uncontrollably for about 5 seconds and stopped. i havent seen him eat yet so i dont know if hes lost his appetite. and i see these sharp whiskers near his mouth(they look a lot like cactus prickles stuck around his mouth) i dont see any other symptoms yet but ill post if anything changes.
thanks in advance, steve

He has what are called crab goby's or I believe. The spines may be from a bristleworm he stumbled into - I have had my jawfish get spines stuck from time to time when one gets into their lair and they carry it out.
I would wait it out for now - you could possibly net the fish and then pull the spines out with some forceps but that may stress him worse.

oops... sorry about that jim(i forgot about the common name thing) its a twin spot goby that i had purchased from aquatek about 2 or 3 weeks ago.
he went through an ick and finrot spell but came out of it in a couple of days so hopefully he will do the same now(he seems to be trying to eat but the barbs are in his way so it is not too successful) maybe he will pull through by himself in a couple of days i would just like to have an idea of what this stuff is(its really weird looking. like some sort of rock formation you would find deep in a cave)
again sorry about the confusion. steve

I'll go with the bristtle worm theory. I have never seen it happen, but it is possible as they move a bunch of stuff around. I had one that used to move snails out all the time.

Not sure if it will help your goby, but I have been using the Garlic Extreme and have noticed a solid comeback in a couple of my damsels that decided to rip into one another. The funny thing is my Tang goes nuts over the stuff.
