man I went to Petco today and saw they have live rock for sale,LOL, man
that cracked me up, and they sell for 7 something for a lb man the most funny thing I have run in to all day and they are selling low light corals, plus they are also selling angel fish and other hard to keep fish now, which will die very soon, they had a a bunch of fish they will have to take good care of, but no they will kill them all they cant even keep clown fish alive and they expect to keep angels, tang, triggers, and a long list of others, also some kind of boxfish too, man we have to do something about petco cuz if they keep this up were not going to have many reefs left with petco killing large numbers of fish

I agree with you Josh, hopefully people wont buy them, or unfortunately for the stock, they will probably die :( . Maybe people won't try to replace them.

I just joined maast and I took over the salt water deptmartment at Petco. Haven't killed any corals yet though. I am trying to expand our small dept. I'm assume you are talking about the Brodie Petco because we are the only one that sells live rock.

maybe you all should check us out before making assumptions. I have three reef tanks; A 12 gallon, 30 gallon, and an 80 gallon. :(

Hi Robert, welcome to MAAST!

I'm sure no one means to insult you personally, but PetCo's have a rather dismal record set against them. To see someone like you attempting to learn and take care of the systems is a good sign and you're a welcome addition to the site.

Since you work there, perhaps you might want to explain to some of the people here how you're making things run smoothly for your particular department? If people here see you run a clean setup they're more likely to drop by and make a purchase.

I hope we can help you out here as well if you have any questions.

Chris ;)

Hi Robert, Welcome to MAAST,

hey I ment not insult to you, just the petco com. I too have tryed to get a job at petco to try to help with this problem with the bad care at some store, the store I was talking about was the one off of Brodie, and if you someone who know about how to take care of a reef/saltwater tank than that's good, but you have to see the bigger pic, most of the petco's don't have poeple who know about how to take care of these fish, I guess before you worked there, I use to go to the brodie petco once and a while and no one there knew anything about reefs, and I use to see sick fish alot white yellow tangs, and numbers of dead fish on the floor of the tanks, but now that you are working there this should all get better, I just wish that all the petco's would wait till they have someone to take care of these fish before they try to sell them, :D

A Few Petco's down here in San Antonio have stopped carring salt water fish & corals. I assume they weren't making much money since I was seeing alot of deaths.

hahaha, where'd that come from?!?

As for Petco, if they can't keep them alive they'll soon be very unprofitable and realize it's time to move on.

well the first post I made alot of mispelled words and word's that did not make cents, but I fixed it ;)

I appreciate the replies. As for the rest of Petco, I really don't have anything to say. I'm still learning and my deptmartment is slowly starting to come together. The fish are not sick and most of our livestock looks really good. i can also give discounts so come by and check us out. I work Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. (usually at night). At Brodie Petco.
