Going to Austin to but a metal halide fixture from Red Dragon tomorrow. My buddy and I are going to hit up the local fish stores...

anyone have suggestions on which ones to hit?

Thanks! (and yes, I should have started this thread a while back!)

definitely take a side trip up to cedar park to go see tim marvin. and then head down 620 towards round rock and check out jim norris. both are great hobbyist and very competative(sp?) in pricing.

other lfs include austin aquariums near northcross mall. aquatek also near north cross mall. partners in round rock. can anyone else think of any i have missed?

hope it helps, steve

If you are trying to hit them all just to look, you can go to:

(In order from south to north *are the ones I go to the most)
The critter shop....San Marcos
*Austin AquaDome....S. Austin off of 290W
Rivers and Reefs.....off of S.Congress
*Amazonia(FW only, but good place to visit + live brine)...off of airport
*Austin Aquariums...Burnett and Anderson Ln
*Aquatek.....Burnett and Anderson Ln
Gallery of Pets....183N at Duval
Partners.....just north of 35 and 1325
Pet Connection....183N in Cedar Park
These are all actual stores, If you are looking for bargin basement prices, talk to Tim and Jim on the boards

partners pets store, its hidden out of the way, i was just there 2sday, and their coral tank was stocked full, normal price on corals is $38. but they are nice. take exit 251, turn right, 3 lights down on the right side next to gino's italian resturant.
i would give tim a call. he has always done me right!

Partners gets some really neat stuff in fish and coral wise that's where I got all 3 of my bluespot jawfish cheap and healthy. Their prices on livestock are ok but drygoods are insane - they say they'll price match though.

Aquatek and Gallery of Pets get nice livestock sometimes but people pick it over pretty quick so the good stuff is usually gone in a day or two. Aquatek has been great about ordering some oddball stuff for me and their advice is usually great.

Austin Aquariums has a nice store and good prices - hopefully they will have more livestock in as they ramp up , their staff is great to deal with and very sharp.

Ya you could say "Tims selling himself for a dollar, can you match that?"

They'd reply, "you get what you pay for....."
:-D :-D

JK, couldnt resist...

That is exactly right, you DO get what you pay for. If you pay for premium Fiji here that is what you get. Not washed out base LR that is called premium Fiji, and at the LFS you definately PAY for it. LOL......NOT JK. Still check out CB Pets, sounds like he is running a good deal.

Tim has nice stuff and gives us some great deals. I'd buy more from him and Jim but we need to support established quality LFS also - sometimes it's hard to justify spending a little more to buy something local but being able to see it and paying for all the great advice (this is in the minority at many stores) is worth paying a little extra for once in a while. Small business is what we need to support here locally in Austin - unless you want to buy ich infested tank raised clowns from Petco your options would be really limited without great stores like Aquatek etc. within driving distance.

Sounds like I need to check CB pets out one day soon - I have found there is always room for more live rock :)
