Any and all opinions on this unit would be appreciated. The tank is a 100 gallon and I was considering a 48" unit.

I have one of those unit b4 (older model.) The unit have four tiny fans, so that helps. There's no hanging bracket for this unit. They sell the leg, but it cost $25 for the leg. I would ask hiddenreef to sell you the unit w/out the blue actinic. You'll want to get some replacement Actinic 03 instead. 269.99 is a good price, I remember mine cost much more two years back.

The tank I have is 60" and I was going to set it (48") on top and make a canopy to match the stand. Using the unit without legs would be ok ... Yes ? Also that price was at that site I found it on e-bay (new) for 219.95

THIS SYSTEM INCLUDES (4) 65 WATT POWER COMPACT BULBS:
(2) 10,000K DAYLIGHT & (2) 7,100K BLUE ACTINIC
BULBS CAN BE CHANGED TO YOUR PREFERENCE!
PLEASE VISIT JBJ BULBS TO SEE THEIR LINE OF BULBS

You don't want to heat up the JBJ setup, hiding it inside a canopy.

For a five foot tank, you'll want more then just two 55Watts Daylight Bulbs.

I have a 100gal that im going to be setting up in the next couple week. I am going to be going with a 4ft light setup that I won at the last meeting(THANKS MAAST!!! :D ). I will be having two 400W MH's and two VHO's. This is way more lighting that you will have with that JBJ, but should be perfect for that tank. You might consider something similar. BTW, the tank will be open top with a floating pendant/canopy about 8-10" above, that im going to build.

I dont really want a pendant and I can do with out the canopy so is there a link I can look at the lights you are mentioning. Also I started the live sand and water, running the filters so once I start adding live rock is light needed at this point. Im in no rush and am going to take my time picking out live rock and setting it up so I get the shapes and size pieces I wish I had done in the 58 gallon. I guess Im asking for corraline growth and what ever else may be present on the rock is lighting an issue this early or can I get away with the cheap bulbs I have without VHO or MH ect.

As far as coralline, 1 actinic and 1 daylight 40 watt bulb will do it with a kalkwasser reactor from Jim D. You will have coralline growing up your walls in the house. I have one of Jim D's Vortex reactors and every place the water is touching has corallline growing from DE/HQI halides to 40 watt tubes makes no difference. It is growing on everything.

Tim in your opinion on the 100 gallon an inexpensive light setup non pendant would be?

Thanks

5 VHO 2 actinic and 3 actinic white URI's run on 2 430 icecaps. Good reliable light at relatively inexpensive cost to purchase, replace , and run.
