Just thought Id post my initial impression of this salt. I gotta tell ya, this stuff is amazing, its like no other salt Ive ever used. Ph 8.45 Ca 420 Dhk 10 right outta the bag! Not to mention the fact that it mixes crystal clear in less than thirty minutes. Ive noticed healthier polyp extention on my SPS and all my clams look noticably plumper and the water just looks much clearer and "healthier" Ill probably never use any other salt mix but this. I got mine from Jim Norris... nuff said...

I definitely want a bucket of this salt too; the Crystal Sea Bio-Assay formula. I was thinking of getting one of our local guppy/goldfish stores to order the stuff, cause shipping has got to be steep on it. If anyone's going to order, I'm in.

Guys the salt Jim is talking about is NOT CS! It is made by Aquacraft Inc. He is using Bio Sea by Aquacraft, also the maker of Marine Enviroment. Crystal Sea Bio is totally different stuff-----it maybe good I do not know. This is the salt that several RC memebers have stated that beached their corals. The salt Jim is talking about and that I also use is not the same salt! Yes I have afew bags of Marine enviroment and Bio Sea left.
Hope this clears things up.

I read a report that said just having a bag of that crystal sea bio near your house will kill your tank. The Bio in the name means bioload. The huge bioload it puts on your system by adding it........JK.............. :twisted:

Tim;

Are you referring to the thread on the Dr. Ron forum of reefcentral? If not, I'd like to see this report. As you may know, this salt was the big winner in Ron Shimek's study of toxity based on urchin larvae survival rates. Apparently, it contains lower levels of a variety of heavy metals than IO. The thread I'm referring to shows that several people have had temporary bleaching when switching to this salt. Others have had no problems. Noone has reported algae outbreaks, high nitrogen compounds, or anything that would indicate an increase in bioload, to my knowledge. Also, on this lengthy thread, noone has brought up anything about a report that shows toxicity or increase in organics with this salt.

What is amazing, though, is the level of controversy and just plain nastiness regarding this salt vs IO, and Ron Shimek's study.

I'm planning on switching from IO to this salt for my next system. If you have some evidence or knowledge that I don't, I'd like to know it before I make the switch.

Thanks, Matt

Vinh,
Yes I think they did! On the 13th page they stated all salts were the same except RedSea salt was only good for corn-on-the-cobb!

I'd be afraid it would kill me too.
