Has anyone sucessfully kept a clown tang with another tang? Clown tangs are suposed to be agressive toward other tangs so what would my best bet be?
I am thinking about trying a yellow, any other suggestions?
Here's my clown

I love those fish! I had one years ago that ate well, good disposition but then died suddenly after about 2 months. I havent seen them much since then and have read that this is not uncommon. Where did you get him and how long ago?? I dont think I could get one now though I have a pretty big Sailfin tang that wouldnt tolerate the competion.

I got him about 3months ago at Fintique. This guy eats like mad when I drop some flakes or brine in the water. He is nice and plump. I am getting a 100g this week, so I want to get another tang in there, before I put him in, so he doesnt claim territory. The lady at fintique said she had/has?? one that is about the size of her hand, so I am hoping he will make it, as I've read that like you said, it's not uncommon for them to just die for no reason.
Did you have any other tang with yours? What do you think about a yellow in with him?

I would baby him and let him have tank to himself honestly. Asdelicate as these are I'd give him as few stress vectors as possible. You could still have other fish Ijust would not have any that compete directly for food with him.
Purple would be pretty bad choice IMO - good chance he'd end up beating the tar out of the clown.
I would suggest if you try any then maybe a bristletooth like a Kole - low key and stay fairly small, they are really pretty too for a brown fish.

yeah, I figured the purple would be a bad choice, since they are also known for being a little agressive also.
Techno... What do you think about putting a Niger in with him? Do you have any tangs with yours, and do they even care each other are there?

I have a 110 tall and keep two yellow Tangs together happily.
They do tend to fight over any food so it is best to feed on both sides of the tank if possible.

Are you talking about two tangs in your 44g tank? :police: If the tang police hear you say that they will not even waste their time beating you, they will just put a bullet right between your eyes! :police: :-D
I'm not a tang cop or anything, just trying to help! You know that your clown tang can get up to 15in. long and needs a minimum tank size of 180gallons when full grown right? Many tangs tend to be somewhat territorial although some will school if in the right number of males/females. Usually it is not recommended to keep tangs of similar shape or color together as they will tend to fight for food and space. If you get a larger tank, then you might be able to keep two tangs as long as you have plenty of hiding places. You should probably introduce them to the tank at the same time so they both have a fair chance at establishing their territory.
I would suggest waiting until you get a much bigger tank and even then you should be careful with your selection.

Wite - in my 75 I have regal tang, niger trigger, Kole tang, bicolor blenny, mated pair of bangaiis, mated pair of watchmen gobies and one percula. The tangs dont bother each other the only thing the Kole fights with is the blenny when he sees him grazing rock. The regal doesn't bother anyone and is more of a omnivore than the kole so maybe that helps. I would really like maybe one less fish or maybe move the bangaii's. I don't see this working more than 6 months at the outside with this may fish.

No, not in the 44, they will be in a 100g
The clown wasnt supposed to be in the 44, but I decided to sell my 150 before he made it in there. He's only about 3" now, and seems happy in the 44 at the moment....

I would probably try a Regal Tang. They are pretty robust but not in an aggressive sort of way. I think mixing a purple tang and a clown would probably be trouble, if you want to try a zebrasoma species I would go for either a yellow tang or a scopas tang. A Kole tang might work out, they are not at all aggressive but may not fair well if your clown starts bullying him too much.

Chuck,Not to get off the subject.. but i also have a 110 show tank and i love it!!
the only problem is that i have about 1900 gph moving through the tank and it dosent seem like enough flow.
i have 2 overflows /a cs150 from cpr that runs 1600gph and one i bought from josh that runs about 900 gph. my return pump is a magdrive 2400 and with the head pressure and the 90s i calc about 1900 gph .
i cant turn the pump up all the way or the overflows wont skim right .
im going to put one (although i hate them) 400 gph power head
in the tank to help with the flow. but was wondering what you were running???

I actually have just (4) penguin powerheads with a nifty air adjustment that creates random spurts for current. I do not have a sump or any other mechanical device. I feel I have a good current that is appropriate for the livestock I keep. I also have (4) 12 vdc CPU fans mounted in the canopy which cool my PCs and also keep the surface disturbed. I am not sure if we can truly compare our setups though since I am without a sump?

I sed to have (2) clone skimmers on it but I decided to take em off. And I also do not use an under gravel filter. The power heads are (2) 1140 and (2) 660. I run all (4) during the day and the 1140s go off with the lights to calm things down over night. The 1140s are rated at 300GPH and the 660s are rated at 170 GPH.
Here is a link that has the details...

I have a magenta dottyback with 2 zebrasoma (yellow) tangs, 2 blue/yellow damsels, 2 domino damsels, 2 firefish, several shrimp and a wheeler gobi

I believe it is going on (4) months since the skimmers came off. For over (2) years the only filtration I had was a pair of skimmers (cheap ones at that sea clone) They eventually stopped creating sludge regardless of how clean they were or position in the tank... So I decided why bother cluttering the tank for no reason. so far so good :-D
