first sign of life

Well, tank is 3 weeks old today and I saw my first sign of life.

A white slug like thing, about 1 cm long and 2mm wide sliding up the front glass panel.

I'd snag a photo of it, but when I went back, it had vanished.

WTF is it? :D

Hope so. I can't find the darn thing now, but it's a good sign that water quality is stabilizing.

Found some flea like things running on the inside of the glass this morning too. I've read about those, but can't recall if it was here or on reefcentral.

If it was good information it was here. If you took a beating for asking anything, then it was ReefCentral.

Maybe you need to ask something contraversal. Try telling them Plenums are the only way to go, or refugiums, or how you have three tangs in a 100 gallon tank and they are doing great. See what response you get then. Pose a threat to their way of thinking because we all know there is only one way to keep a reef tank. MY WAY! 8)

My favorite (which has caused a minor stir here even) is the debate over w/skim or without. :-o
I am without and have been for over 2 months. In fact I have no mechnical filtration at all.. Just live rock/sand and critters :)

Superx - good chance it's a Stomatella snail or possibly a mobile limpet like a scutus. 99.9% are good for yout tank and stomatella will even reprduce in your tank.


On Reefcentral - I have gotten some good information there but the amount of boneheads and angry eco-nazi's makes it hard for hobbyists to have a discussion without other people crapping on the thread. Reefs.org is friendlier but doesn't get nearly as much traffic. Reefcentral has good sale/trade forums and the expert columns are useful too (Coral forum, ID forum).

Looks like something from the "Man Show" :o

Part of the fun in this hobby is finding new things that you never knew was in there. I have all kinds of strange sponge creatures and the sand bed is full of little feather dusters.. I also have seen your critter but that was before my banded ccoral shrimps found it I think :?

That is a flat worm. Thank goodness not the red ones. It should die off on its own. You may get a bunch, but they will usually crash, luckily. Don't panic and do anything rash, just be patient.

I was wondering what they were.

Perhaps when I add a few fish, snails, and hermit crabs, things will get really exciting.

Plans are to add one peppermint shrimp(candy-striped), 3-4 damsels, and snails/hermits over the next few months.

Nothing special, nothing fancy.
