when I was first getting started with my ten gallon I overdosed phytoplex and got a sharp ammonia spike. My Xenia haven't looked the same since. They still have arms but all the fingers are gone. This has been about 3 months now and my question is --will they regenerate their arms and pulsing fingers or will they always look bad???

well the same thing happened to me the fingers fell off due to bad babysitting over SB but they came back and are doing ok

My tank stats are excellent. All of my other specimens are doing great. In fact one of the Xenia has moved off its shell and onto a neighboring rock--but still no luck with its arms. Any recommendations? :D

you should try adding Iodine supplement

I have never had the best of luck with xenia. Some things to check:
Water temp - Xenia will crash with temp fluctuations/High temp
Iodine - try Iodine supplement. Beware if you try Potassium Iodide. I nuked a tank of mine by overdosing with it. Stick to commercial aquarium additives.
Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice. Do you know where I can purchase a Iodine test kit? What temp do you recommend me to set my tank at? And how do you get the nifty pics under your username?

My temp is at 80 and I add Iodine 2 times a week, I don't have a test kit I just make sure I don't over dose, It can be toxic if over dosed your Xenia will love it and growing will be some what faster, this is one coral that uses Iodine to the fullest, ;)

Hi Red,
Mine grow like Oaks. I am actually selling them at a LFS to the extent they are paying for my hobby. My temp ranges from 75 - 83 give or take 2 degrees everyday (My tank is a 110 so it is a gradual shift). They like water movement that is medium. Stop by sometime and have a look if you want. The pics I have in the gallery are old but will give you an idea.
I have been skimmerless for about two months and the tank looks great.
Lights & a good Ro/Di unit seem to me to be the main thing anymore in this hobby.
Good luck.!
;)

hey chuck. Xenia is one of my favorite corals. I am disappointed to have nearly killed mine with the phytoplex OD. Is there any way that I can buy a frag directly from you intead of having to go to the fs. Let me know how much a medium sized frag will cost me. I also have a friend who would be interested in buying some from you as well. I have off this entire weekend and would love to introduce some new xenia into my tank :D Let me know if this would be possible.

:)
Actually I owe my current success to Troy as he started me out with both types. I have a few other things but I am still a fan of the xenia.
Mattheyn I PM'd ya about the Xenia...

hey mattheyn, My xenia are growing like weeds as well. If you run out of xenia for that LFS guy throw me a note cause I can supply you some and you can sell them to that lfs.
