Amazing what they charge for holy rock (limestone) when you can just find it laying around all over town.

Yeah, but I think that stuff has been sand blasted alot to get the nice color and large smooth holes in it. I bought some and bleached it, and wire brushed it to get the nice white color to it, which was a PITA, and and it looked nowhere near as good as the stuff you buy. Also, you have to get all the plant roots out of the small holes, which I might add, is also a PITA. I do agree that paying $6-$10/lb is really high for dead rock, but I also believe there is a lot of processing going into it to make it look good....cs

It would amaze you at what a bucket of water, a little bleach, and an overnight dip will do for a piece of rock. Then blast it with the hose really good and let it dry in the sun, rinse, let it dry again a few times. You can make some pretty good looking rock.

Well, I soaked mine in bleach/water for about 3 days, scrubed it with a plastic brush a couple times while it was soaking. That didnt do much, so I used a wire brush and that got most of the discoloration off, and then I soaked it in chlorine remover for a while, and it still didnt look the best. Most of it was white, but there were some orange spots that wouldnt come off, or I couldnt get to them. Also, alot of the small holes had plant roots in them, which were a PITA to get out, had to use needle nose pliers on that.

Ouch, I didn't know milky white rock is in fashion. I was thinking the honey tanned one would be more good looking. :-D

I wanted the white look, cause it contrasts pretty much all colors of fish, especially the blues, reds, oranges, and yellows of africans....cs
