Since it's vendor related lets put this topic in the Vendor Experiences section.

I like their logo! Any idea when they open up?

Looks neat, had no idea another store was opening so close to me. That will make 5 (6 if you count Tim) good LFS local to Austin. Oh yeah amazonia (freshwater mostly) that's 7.

I give most of my business to Aquatek or Gallery of Pets currently. Not that the other LFS are bad just a bit more of a drive. I just wonder in this down economy if there is room for another fish store in austin.

Anyone seen aquadome recently? I was down there a few weeks back and they did some remodeling and have new coral tanks instead of that giant pool upstairs.

i believe its the same owners as the dallas north aqauarium, a huge store in dallas. i've never been but you can check out their website pretty neat. it's going to be interesting to see how big of a store they're making it and if the market can support this type of high end store. only time will tell. it's going to provide some good competition to the other austin stores.

I have been to the store in Dallas last year when they had their annual 1/2 price sale on all their livestock. Their regular prices are very expensive, but most of the pet stores are way more expensive that here. There stock was ok, they had a better selection than down here. But it was one of the nicer stores. They have also recently moved to a bigger store in Dallas. My daughter was up last week and visited it. She said it was very nice, but still expensive.

First, thank you to whomever sent us a link to this discussion. This is a quick note about the store, with more info to follow when I am not running out the door to work. 8)

Michael Holcomb owns Austin Aquariums (AAC) and is the brother to John, the owner of Dallas North Aquarium (DNA). Although we share experience and ideas with the folks up at DNA, the two stores are not affiliated.

Thanks for the comment about the logo; I will pass it on to the person who created it. I think it is cool myself.

We plan to have a “slow roll” opening on April 4. The lights will be on, the staff will be there, but we will be working the bugs out as customers come in and shop. The actual Grand Opening will be April 12.

We will have opening specials, I am just not sure on what all as yet. I have not set pricing up yet, but hope to be competitive. :D I am still getting fish and corals in, and will know more as we get closer to opening. Here is some general info on the store:

Shop tanks are 70 gallon DAS.

African Cichlids - 1,260 gallons in 18 shop tanks
Fresh Water - 1,050 gallons in 15 shop tanks
Salt Water Fish - 1,470 gallons in 21 shop tanks
Inverts - 1,260 gallons in 18 shop tanks

We will carry many types and sizes of aquariums, with plans to open with many tanks between 10g and 115g.

The entire store is approx. 5,500 square feet and has a 270 sq. ft. classroom that we plan to use to have classes.

Well that’s it for now! Please try to come see us when we’re open, we’d appreciate a chance to earn your business.

The one special I do know will be on Oceanic Aquariums. If you order an aquarium through me, I'll sell it for $1.00 over invoice. This doesn't apply to the tanks I'll have in the store, only those ordered. A 50% deposit is required when the tank is order, with the balance due upon receipt. I believe this offer will be for the month of April, but may end sooner (up to the boss  ).

I am working on other specials, just don't know what they are yet.

Once we're open, come in and ask for Charley, I'll be more than happy to help.

After the meeting Steve and I were able to get a sneak preview of this store. All I have to say is WOW. It is huge, lot of space. Charley was nice enough to give us a tour of his facility and some of his future plans, very impressive. Tanks, set-ups, filtration, product lines, and service all look very good. Can't wait for it to open. Too bad I'm way over here in san antonio :( or I think I would be there everyday. I can't even begin to describe everything, hopefully everyone will make a trip out there and see for yourself.

Thanks once again Charley
