Everyone should also know that - 1) they guy has simply talked to a Home Depot manager out of state through email on Reef Central and no arrangements have been made to get sand from their to here and 2) that $15.00 is not a set price, it was just a guess from the guy on ARK.
As most of us know from Josh's efforts, this is not always an easy task to pull off. Also, I wonder where all the people from ARK were when Josh was trying to get this done before?

Hey guys, i'm the person from ARK that was talking about Southdown. I had talked to a guy from HD out of state, and depending on how many bags ordered, we may have been able to work on a bulk order or just buy some bags. I really got little or no interest from the ARK members (maybe 20 bags), so that really wasnt going to happen. With a small order like that, I could pretty surely get the bags for 15 each + shipping, which is OK, but no screaming deal. So basically, I've just put it on hold unless I find a bunch of people interested and then i'll talk to him some more.

I do a lot of work with Home Depot, but unfortunately do not know any of the local managers. The people I work with are construction superintendents and project managers. I do know that HD has had declining sales for almost the past year so they should be willing to do it to get some sales. The only problem is that the store that has it and is going to transfer it doesn't get the sales, just the store to store transfer at cost.

Believe it or not a lot of the Austin group is here. The Austin group came to a grinding halt............?? Maybe one post a week.

I've noticed a lot of familiar faces here. The guy I talked to was a manager at a store in cincinnati, and he was willing to store to store ship it if we can talk a local HD to accept it. Of course, its still not a guarantee even if we get the local HD to say ok... its not like i know this guy, i just met him on RC and figured i'd ask. We can try, but I can tell you that I (24 year old) am probably not the best person to go ask... I have a really hard time getting serious help at most stores like this. They just kind of blow me off to go talk to the older people waiting like their money is worth more.

Which store was it? I can try to see if they will do it. How did it work last time? did they have to pre-purchase most/all of the pallet? Did they have to pay shipping?

I was given a number to send to my HD manager contact of a person who supposedly can set up a store transfer of the sand. I really have no idea who this person is, or what connections he has, but i forwarded the info to the HD manager. Basically, its out of my hands now. Hope it goes though, I could use some sand.

From what i estimate, about 20-30 bags were tentatively wanted by members of ARK, so i'm sure between ARK and MAAST we can sell at least 50. I want 4-5 at least.

Josh - I will definately take 4 if you can get them in and I don't think you will have any problem selling them if you get 2 pallets. There was a guy selling South Down by the bag on RC awhile back even. Maybe Charley at Austin Aquariums would buy some from you as well.

Sorry guys, this guy was a flake apparently. He offered to ship through HD or ship it himself (for too much money IMO), and when we went for the ship through HD option, where he doesnt make any money, he conveniently wasn't interested in trying to ship any more... Oh well, at least it looks like we have some other connections/opportunities to try and get some. I'm in for at least 5 bags when we do.

oh man... Im bringing a trailer up there so I plan on bringing back as much as I can fit in the room I have left. I plan on posting to reef central in early may to see where a home depot on my route is that has it. I plan on getting a bunch to culture along with my live rock for later sale. Im sure I will have enough room to hook everyone up that wants some.

If a deal can't be done through Home Depot to get the sand here, I think we should do another Pure Argonite sand order like Jose did. It sounds like we have enough to order a pallet and people are always looking for more sand. I'm not sure what kind of trailer RatBoy will be hauling, but an additional 4000lb load of sand is a lot to carry.

Anyone know what the website for pure argonite is? I can't seem to find it!

Are you still heading up to the northeast soon? If you could still pick up some SouthDown sand I think a few people would be glad to buy some off of you. The group order from Home Depot is a no go and the group order for the Pure Aragonite sand is only up to about 14bags right now. If you got what you needed and then another 20 bags, that would be great and much appreciated by me, Henry, Matt, and one or two others.
Just let us know, thanks!

Welcome to MAAST. If you read the posts above, a new thread was started for the Pure Aragonite sand order. Unfortunately, there was not enough interested to justify ordering even a half pallet! For now, your best bet is to keep an eye out for someone selling extra bags of sand they already have or you will have to break down and pay LFS prices. With two large sand orders in less than a year by the group, I think it may be awhile before there is enough interest to get another group order going.
