Ok...
I have 2 Yellow Tail Blue Damsels in my tank... I plan on buying a few more fish...
I would like to try to (safely) trap my damsels and keep them seperate from the main tank for a while...
Any suggestions or DIY's that anyone may be familiar with???
Thanks...

I use a large clear container, like a pitcher or jug and a net and chase the fish into the container. No harm due to netting.

ha ha ha ha :-D :-D
I had the same problem when I first started off let me guess you bought your tank and the store employee said well you should buy a cheap starter fish to get your tank started then they showed you where the damsels are. No the damsel owns the tank and if you put any other fish in there it will bully it around even if it is twice its size. I hate damsels, I had a yellow tail and I tried everything to get it out of my 37 gallon tank. My roomates even got into it and we made a big joke about it. Whoever catches it gets dinner and beer paid for etc. We spent countless hours trying to catch that thing and never succeeded finally I had to take almost all the rock and coral out to catch it. I was so ****ed that I put the fish in a bucket of saltwater to die but I felt bad after a couple of days and took it to the store. anyways good luck
My suggestion buy or borrow a large lion fish and let it eat them for lunch.

I am currently trying to catch one in my nano. Why oh why I put him in there I will never know but to yank him out I may have to dismantle my nice looking tank. I am currently trying to make a trap and like previous poster said these greedy little bastards will eventually slip up, patience.
One thing you could try is putting some food in then turning the lights off then hitting them full on with a flashlight from outside of tank. They should be dazed enough and in water colums so you can scoop them out. I accidentally did this the other night when the dog bumped the switch to my pendant - I got up to see what was going on and the sudden brightness at a wierd time had my 6 line wrasse out swimming disoriented in his pajamas (night coloration) . He was so out of it I could almost scoop him up by hand.

You might want to see if there is anyone who would be willing to lend you their fish trap if they ever bought one. I borrowed a friend's and it had a little lid in the bottom to put live brine and such to lure the fish in, and I caught mine in about 5 minutes.

:-D :-D :-D This sounds almost as bad as when I spent 1 1/2 months trying to catch a big rock crab that was preventing me from putting ANYTHING in my tank. Sounds like Josh & Isis have some good ideas. Good luck and I'm glad the LFS didn't try to talk me into a damsel...had already heard...hehe

Ok... I don't know if ya'll remember my story about the Damsel "fighting" with his reflection or not... Anyway, I am in the process of another "experiment"...
I have taped a small compact mirror to the outside glass and he is fighting with himself again... I am going to try to trap him this way...
Wish me luck... Maybe this'll lead to a new DIY!!!
