What kind of ballast is it?

On a regular M59 ballast (transformer & capacitor), there are two commons on the transformer as one gets connected to your power source (power cord) and the other runs to the lamp mogul/bulb. The wires should be marked. The hot/line wire on the transformer connects to the power source (power cord) and then a wire runs from the transformer to the capacitor and then connect to the other wire running to the lamp mogul/bulb.

Any other ballast should have instruction with it or actually marked on the label. If you can specify which one you have, maybe someone with that kind can help you out. Be careful though!

hahhaahh if i would have just read the instructions i would have read ...................
WIRING NOTES (in big black letters)
1. Balasts have been supplied with two COM leads for your convenience.
These leads are connected together inside the Ballast...
2.See wiring examples provided for proper termination of various
input voltages.
3.yada yada yada!!!

No problem. Some ballasts have all kinds of wires attached to them and it can be confusing. The M59 metal halide ballasts I have are multi-tap so they can be powered from 120, 220, 277, and 400volts depending on which white wire you connect to.

Good luck and as always, better safe than sorry when it comes to electrical concerns :D
