Mine is like this
2 x3ft, 2 x4ft actinic vhos 10am -11pm
2 x400 W halides 2pm-10pm
I have iwasaki 6500 bulb MH and the actinics make them look a lot better. Seems like they grow coral real well.

Lighting all depends on what your keeping. Fish, 1-40 watt full spectrum for at least 6 hours during the day. Soft corals 100 watts 6-10 hpd. Acropora 100-200 watts plus halides or some high output lighting 100-200 watt lights for 10-14 hours, halide or high output for 6-10 hpd. Just my little rule of thumbs. On smaller tanks this is hard to do so it is best to pack as many bulbs of as high an intensity you can find onto small tanks. Power compacts come in a 96 watt quad lamp that you can buy as a smart lamp to work well on 10-30 gallon tanks.
