In the next few weeks I plan on going to LA and visit the major wholesalers there. Like Walt Smith, Sea Dwelling Creatures and ERI etc. I am also going to cherry pick several clams (I am planning on meeting Barry from Clams Direct there)(and hoping maybe Tim will come). Maybe if anybody wants I can get a wish list and pick up something???? I will fly in on sat. and return on a monday. Of course all prices to you will be at wholesale cost. If anybody really wanted some thing exotic this maybe a good time. Example I had Jason at Sea Dwelling Creatures get me a lineatus wrasse this is a $200.0 plus wrasse wholesale price was $69.00.

Sure I'll go, but only if we charge slightly above wholesale prices to cover part of the airfair. Plus don't forget the tax lady will want her share. We could still get some smoking deals! Plus they will be the best of the best! Since we can look them over and get the cream of the crop! If we get enough interest I'd be interested in doing this every couple months.

How well do you think some small fish would fare? I'm still interested in getting a bunch of Orange-striped Cardinalfish(Apogon cyanosoma). Probably around 8-10 of them.

Even with your markup it'll be cheaper than me having to get liveaquaria.com to ship them.

I would also be interested in a Maxima if you find a VERY pretty one. For the right one I am a little flexible on price but I would prefer to stay in the $40 range.

Are these wholesalers open to the public, or do you have to be a dealer to purchase from them? My wife and I travel often and if posible would like to check them out.

Also, when you travel with items such as this do you check them or carry them on? Well I guess that would be dependant upon the amount that you had purchased. Hummmmm............any information you could supply would be apperciated.

Thanks

Unfortunately you have to be a dealer. Otherwise they would be retailers.

Jim,
Please check your PM on the anemone. I'm free after 11:45 A.M. on Monday, so if you need a ride home to Round Rock from the Airport, please let me know. I only have a Camry Sedan, and the trunk is out of the question. So, everything will have to fit in the front of the car.

You don't have to have a wholesale license to visit them. But you need to accompany someone who have a license to get in. Policy is different from wholesaler to wholesaler, so I can't speak for them all.

This is true champion sells at wholesale prices sometimes that is why I tell you guys to look online before I order you anything so I can tell you if I can get it cheaper for you or not. BUT, the wholesalers in marine livestock in LA will not sell to you without a license. That I am aware of.

How often do you make trips such as this?

This would be my first visit. I have order many dozen of times from the wholesalers. So it would be more of a fun trip for me. Like a kid in a candy store.

Jim,

How did the trip go? Was it worth the time and do you plan another in the future?
