Transplanting sand bed?

I have about a 1-2 in. mature sandbed and was wondering how to transplant it to a new tank, when I get the new tank of course :grin: I was thinking you could scoop it up in sections with a small flat ended gardening shovel? Any ideas or other input?

I've been using plastic dustpan, or those strong sterilte 4Liters water container with handle, and wide lid( as wide as the insider diameter of the container.)
