A significant numbers of wild colonies will not survide, oe will not grow out well in captivity even under the very best conditions. So don't count on all your colonies will live and grow fast enough to be frag.
I would go for tank raise colonies or frags several generation from the wild. These will do well if you give them good enviroment.

I would go in with you, but I am on my way to pick up another 25 acropora at the airport. By the way these wholesalers don't bargain, so I haven't found any details to work out....? You order, you pay, they ship. Let me know how you are working out deals with them. I'd be interested to know if I could save more money. Oh, and have them pack your order first thing in the morning or it may sit at the airport overnight with will add to your mortality rate. Also get them on Mondays, because most wholesalers get the new stuff over the weekend, and if you order mid week they scrape up some leftovers for you. You should also order routinely from the same person so you can get a relationship with them or you may end up with the crap. They don't care so much about the amount of your order as much as you ordering routinely. Of course $1,000 orders per week will help to get you better stock.. They will take better care of you. Just my two cents.

Tim - Josh said he might order some livestock with the corals. Do you have any experience with their livestock?
I might be interested in ordering a few fish if they are available and good quality. I want to find a nice flame angel and maybe a six-line wrasse or copperband butterfly. Maybe a coral or two if the old checkbook can handle it.
Thanks, Chris Parker

Josh, if you wait two or three months, I could take up half of the order by myself if you can't find any partners. But right now, I'm in a middle of a downgrade/upgrade. I want the rockwork to look perfect b4 I add any more corals.
Those silly rebates haven't show up yet either.

If you don't like her to beat up on you, just pretend that you enjoy the beating. Tell her to give you some more. She'll get tired eventually.

What other post are you talking about? Are you seeing things? Do you have problem with the computer talking to you, telling you what to do?
Just joking, I cleaned up my post to keep this thread on topic.

So nobody is willing to jump in right now?
I would split from 25% to 75% with you right now, but I don't have any place to put it. When you bring that 75 up to my place. I'm going to trade it for a 40 gallon tank/stand. That 40 gallon tank/stand is going to be my SPS tank. I've got most of the equipment needed to turn it into a SPS dominated tank.

I have found ERI to have pretty good all around livestock and fair deals. The fish are usually pretty good. Don't forget to order on Thursday or Friday though and have them pack on Monday after the new selection comes in.

I don't see how you guys spend so much money on all this stuff  I mean, I have a good job and I would go broke if I kept getting all the things I wanted. Honestly, If you guys have any secrets, please share b/c all I want is a Red Sea Wavemaker and a few new powerheads and can't figure out how to come up with the extra $200.

Sell an organ or two. After a while everyone gets used to the twitching or having to use the bathroom every 20 minutes. Anything for the sake of reefing right?

I usually charge my purchase to my credit cards. Then I get all these telemarkers that called and ask if I wanted a low balance transfer into their credit card. There's several thousand credit cards company out there. I've been in the reef hobby for about 18 months now, and I haven't paid a penny for it. I love America!!!!!!!!!!
I figured that if it ever catch up to me, I'll sell off everything and go retire in Cancun. Oops, I guess I'll have to go to a different location now that I let the secret out.

Vinh, let me know what you can get it for. I already have one brand new 1200. I had a pump go out yesterday so I ran to the LFS and picked one up. I would need 3 1200's and the Red Sea Pro.
So, you just keep transferring your balances to new cards before the payment is due?

I was just joking around. I try to pay off my CC bill in full each month. Even at a low rate, a balance transfer is around 4% to 6%. No point in paying that.
I hate it when they keep calling me up and ask if I want to do a balance transfer. "For the eight time, NO, I don't want to transfer my balance."

I have the money right now, but I don't have any room for it until about six to eight weeks. I don't have much experience, but shouldn't the corals be given time to settle out for a few weeks b4 we start fragging it up? My last online big corals order, a bunch of fishes and corals died w/in a week. Too bad the warranty was only for one day. I've bought large amount of corals locally b4. I have never had that much local corals and fishes die off like I did on the online order.

My time table is different from yours, but if we do it, I should be able to meet you at the airport from Saturday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon. Maybe we could each keep the cool looking one, and frag up the brown looking stuff right then and there. They need a water change from the bag anyway.

I was just joking around, don't get me put in jail. :o
You don't want to receive it on Tuesday.
You want them to pack early in the morning, shipped out early the same day, and have it arrive to in SA by early evening, or late night.
Take a look at the Cargo Schedule on Delta Airline, or SWA Cargo Schedule on the web to see what I'm talking about. Some flight only take a few hours to get from LAX to SA, some flight don't leave until the next morning at 5 A.M. If you miss the last flight of the day( which is at 5 P.M. then you'll have to wait until the next morning to depart.) Generally the cargo need to get to the airport an hour b4 flight for it to have a chance to make the next flight out.
You don't want them to pack it in the afternoon, drop off at the airport at 8 P.M. sitting around all night, ship out at 5 A.M. and arrive in SA at 12 P.M. the next day over. That would mean that the corals would be in the box for 18 to 24 hours already. You don't want them to ship it that way. The faster you get your corals, the better chance of them surviving. This is assuming that they don't have a 24 hours operation.
Some place like Harbor Aquatic pack up their stuff at 3 A.M. drop it off at the airport, and get it to you by 10 A.M. or 12 A.M.
If the corals have been in the bags for a long time, you'll have to acclimate it slowly. This is why some LFS can't afford to order direct from Malaysia. It's cheaper to order it direct, bypassing the wholesaler in LA. But your entire order could easily get wipe out.

No you do have a choice! That is why I said ship Mondays, but place the order Friday or earlier. Tell Amanda, or whoever your sale rep is that you need them out first thing. Then they will get them on the first flight so you don't have to go to the airport at 11:45 PM.

I usually have my stuff in the water within 8 hours of them bagging. I have them pack first thing in the morning and I pick it up at the airport by 5 pm. I used to take whatever and had to go to the airport at 12:45 am. Those late nights were killers. I still have that pick up sometimes but only when it doesn't make it's flights. I don't like to let the stuff sit there like most pet stores do. I see all the other stores things just sitting there in the cargo terminal. Who knows when they pick it up.
