I'm thinking about ordering some Mysis shrimp from Piscine Energetics (http://www.mysis.com/) if I can get enough people to go in with me. I sent them an email earlier today, asking for a quote, including shipping, for their minimum order. The response follows:

Dear Dow,
Thank you for your contact!
In reply, please find my quote for a minimum order of mysis (38 8 oz
packages), as follows:

38 8 oz packages @ $3.05/pkg $115.90
Shipping cost - Federal Express $ 57.29
Total $173.19

Our shipments leave Wednesdays, for a Thursday morning delivery. I request
a prepayment for a first order. One way this can be done using your credit
card is through the service www.paypal.com and using our email address:
piscine@mysis.com. If this isn't convenient, we can work out an alternate
method. I require either a Federal Tax ID, Employer Identification or SSN
to clear customs as we're in Canada. I also recommend that you have a chest
style freezer that will maintain a temperature of 0° F or lower, for an
optimum shelflife of one year or longer..
We have the regular size, and a limited amount of graded small mysids, about
1/8 to 1/4 the regular size.
I appreciate you interest! Please let me know if you have any other
questions.
With best regards,
Patsy

So, including shipping, the price would be $4.56 per 8 oz package. By comparison, Premium Aquatics (http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=PA&Category_Cod e=Mysis) gets $12.95 for 8 oz. I plan on keeping four packages, so that would leave 34 for other people. If you're interested, let me know. I'd like to have payment in advance, if possible.

Thanks!

I would be interested in 4 or so. When were you planning on ordering?

It depends on when I get enough people together. They have a Friday deadline, with shipping on the following Wednesday for Thursday delivery. I guess that just about any week would work, provided I have enough orders to cover it.

In the event that there's enough interest, they also ship in cases of 72. I don't know what the price of that would be, but I'd assume that it's similar per package, with more for shipping, maybe. Never mind on the shipments of 72... They're half the size, have more water, and cost only about 1/3 less each.

I noticed Alamo Aquatics sells frozen mysis now.... not sure of the price or weight but if you wanted it like tomorrow you could go there. 8)

the price isn't bad though... i'll go in for 4 packages.

Well, so far, I have 12 spoken for, plus whatever you want, out of a total of 38. If you get some cleaners in, maybe we can work a trade.

I might mention the mysis at the meeting tomorrow, too.

I'll take a bag to try out.

Well, I guess that I'll put this on hold for a while. I don't have enough orders right now, and don't have the freezer room for what's left. Besides, Troy and I made a batch of fish/coral food a couple of weeks back, and it's outstanding. I think that I'll stick with the recipe for a while.

Thanks for the interest, everybody.

Hey guys, Texas Tropical has frozen mysis as well for about the same price or less. That's where I get mine from. It seems Alamo has them as well. Is there something about these that makes them better? Just wondering since you can get them locally.

Techgrad,
They sale the 8 oz. size for the same price? It's normally around $4 to $6.50 for the 4 oz. size at the LFS. I'm still trying to use up my Gift CArd, so I've been buying all my stuff from Petsmart.

Hey Vinh, You may be right. It could be 4oz. at the LFS.

I would love to get 4-6 package if we can get them to Corpus or San Antonio.
